Position Title: Assistant Project Manager
Organization: Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL)

Location: Luc Hoffmann Hima Center in Kayfoun, with frequent field visits to West Bekaa and Upper Beirut River Valley

Work Conditions: The role is expected to be approximately 50% remote and 50% in-person, including regular presence in the office and frequent field visits as needed.

1. Background

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) is a national NGO working to conserve biodiversity, promote sustainable land use, and engage communities in nature conservation through the Hima approach. SPNL is involved in various projects addressing biodiversity conservation, species monitoring, sustainable livelihoods, and nature-based solutions to climate challenges.

To support the effective implementation of its growing project portfolio, SPNL seeks an Assistant Project Manager to assist in coordinating project activities, conducting fieldwork, managing data and analysis, and ensuring high-quality reporting and stakeholder engagement.

2. Purpose of the Role

The Assistant Project Manager will support project implementation across technical and operational components, particularly in areas related to biodiversity monitoring, species conservation, data collection and analysis, stakeholder engagement, and field coordination. The role also includes support in documentation, technical and financial reporting, and compliance with donor requirements.

3. Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager will:

  • Assist in planning and implementing project work plans, schedules, and field activities.
  • Coordinate with rangers, local stakeholders, municipalities, and partners to support project delivery.
  • Conduct regular field visits during activity implementation and/or stakeholder meetings to monitor progress and ensure quality delivery.
  • Arrange and coordinate meetings with relevant stakeholders (e.g., governmental agencies, municipalities, community members, technical experts) when needed.
  • Support logistical preparations for training sessions, workshops, and community events.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of biodiversity field surveys, habitat assessments, and species monitoring.
  • Maintain coordination with birds and plants experts to ensure continuous monitoring in target locations and high-quality data entry and analysis.
  • Maintain organized records of field data, activity trackers, and project documentation.
  • Support in drafting technical and narrative reports to donors and partners.
  • Contribute to presentations, factsheets, and communication materials as needed.
  • Support budget tracking and ensure compliance with SPNL and donor policies.
  • Maintain organized archives of supporting documents and receipts.

4. Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in biodiversity conservation or environmental projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in fieldwork, species monitoring, or ecological data collection.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (Excel required; GIS or biodiversity databases is a plus).
  • Strong communication skills in both Arabic and English (spoken and written).
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable working and interacting with local communities.
