Junior Fab Lab Coordinators (GIL Fab Lab North and GIL Fab Lab South)

Context & Background

The Generation of Innovation Leaders (GIL) program is an initiative by UNICEF aimed at empowering youth in Lebanon through access to innovative, technical, and entrepreneurial opportunities. As part of this mission, GIL and Berytech has established a joint initiative: GIL Fab Labs, a digital fabrication network across the country to provide youth with hands-on training in digital fabrication, design thinking, and product development.

The Junior Fab Lab Coordinator will support the daily operations of the Fab Lab, assist in technical tasks and workshops, and contribute to community outreach and communication under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator.

Scope of Work

The Junior Fab Lab Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Fab Lab’s daily activities, assisting users, performing basic technical maintenance, and contributing to outreach and communication efforts. This role is suitable for someone early in their career with technical know-how, a willingness to learn, and a passion for digital fabrication.

Responsibilities

A. Fab Lab Support & Operations

• Assist in the daily operations of the Fab Lab.
• Help schedule and prepare for workshops and training sessions.
• Support in maintaining equipment, materials, and lab organization.
• Ensure adherence to lab safety and cleanliness guidelines.

B. Technical Assistance

• Assist with machine setup, file preparation, and basic troubleshooting.
• Operate and support digital fabrication tools (3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting).
• Provide guidance to users on equipment usage under supervision.
• Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of machines.

C. Community Engagement & Communication

• Assist in organizing events and activities to engage the local community.
• Support in drafting emails and outreach materials.
• Help maintain partner contact lists and respond to routine inquiries.

D. Social Media & Content Support

• Contribute to social media content creation (photos, stories, updates).
• Help monitor online accounts and respond to basic questions.
• Coordinate with the senior coordinator for digital campaigns.

E. Design & Fabrication Software Assistance

• Assist users in:
  • CAD tools: Fusion 360, Rhino, AutoCAD
  • 2D tools: Illustrator, photoshop
  • CAM tools: Cura

F. Electronics & Programming Support

• Support entry-level electronics activities:
  • Arduino and basic circuits
  • Sensors and simple coding tasks
  • Basic soldering and wiring

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Design, or related STEAM fields.
• Certification in Digital Fabrication (e.g., Fab Academy) is a strong asset.

Experience:

• 1+ years of experience in a Fab Lab, makerspace, or similar technical environment.
• Proven experience in digital fabrication, prototyping, and technical maintenance.
• Experience with social media and communications is a plus.
• Experience with events or youth engagement is a plus.

Language:

• Fluency in Arabic and English (verbal and written); French is a plus.

Skills:

• Strong interest in Design and Digital Fabrication.
• Proficiency in design software and fabrication tools.
• Good organizational and teamwork skills.
• Effective communicator with a positive attitude.
