Focal Point - Ideas Box Project - Kamed Al Loz

Project Description:

The Ideas Box is a project implemented by Amel Association in partnership with Bibliothèques Sans Frontières (BSF), funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

The Ideas Box is a mobile “pop up” multimedia center and learning hub that provides educational and cultural resources to communities in need, including refugees and displaced persons in camps around the globe, and underserved communities in developed countries.

The Ideas Box will be deployed in Haret Hreik, Chiyah, Kamed el Loz, Al Ain, Khiam, and Saida as a support tool for the ongoing projects and activities as a first step, and with the long-term objective of creating tailor made and innovative activities.

ASSIGNMENT

The Focal Point will be based in one of Amel community centers where the Ideas Box is deployed. She/He works under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator and the Project Coordinator. She/He oversees, coordinates and organized the activities implemented inside the Ideas Box space.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibility #1: Internal Coordination

  • Participate in team meetings;
  • Liaise with Amel on different programs in the assigned location;
  • Share constantly the updates related to the project’s implementation with the Field Coordinator daily;
  • Participate in other required internal meetings at the center’s level.

Responsibility #2: Collaboration, Networking

  • The focal points are in charge of outreach for the open sessions they will design and implement;
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with the communities and other local actors;
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the project and activities;
  • Coordinate with relevant partners in the assigned locations.

Responsibility #3: Projects Implementation

  • Under the supervision of Field and Project Coordinators, the Focal Point will be implementing the project’s activities in line with the relevant outputs and outcomes inside & outside the center; 
  • Introduce the concept to children, youngsters, adults as well as other colleagues accordingly and adequately;
  • Carry out and support in preset activities implemented by other departments at Amel utilizing all the Ideas Box aspects: books, tablets and computers, multimedia, arts and crafts;
  • Suggest and collaborate with Amel colleagues to design or calibrate the preset activities to the identified needs;
  • Suggest, design and implement open sessions based on the needs and in collaboration with external trainers;
  • Schedule dedicated timeframes as open access hours, globally or to specific target population;
  • Organize themed days and community events to raise awareness about the project;
  • Follow-up and /or refer when in needed both internally or externally when and if possible;
  • Oversee, support and follow-up on the creation of activity sheets for the sessions implemented inside the Ideas Box space;
  • Be in charge of the Ideas Box material and inventory.

Responsibility #4: Quality Standards

  • Monitor and follow-up on the quality of services provided during the sessions;
  • Ensure having a safe environment in the Ideas Box space especially during the open access timeframes;
  • Ensure adherence to Amel policies and donor requirements;
  • Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality and a child-centered approach, acts in the best interests of the child;
  • Ensure that all activities abide by humanitarian principles and sector principles and standards.

 

Responsibility #5: Monitoring & Evaluation / Reporting

  • Enter and update on a daily basis both the attendance sheet and the daily activity; 
  • Prepare quantitative reports on a monthly basis;
  • Lead on needs assessment in prior of designing new open sessions when needed;
  • Issue the schedule of the space including the scheduled activities as well as the open access hours on a weekly or monthly basis;
  • Take photos of the different activities and upload them on Drive.
  • The Focal Point may support additional tasks and carry other responsibilities that are not mentioned above, depending on the needs of the education program. 

Requirements, Skills and Qualifications:

At least two years’ experience in education or management, preferably in an NGO environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in management, education, or another social science
  • A demonstrated understanding of national development issues in particular in relation to children
  • Strength in interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English
  • Strong documentation, research and report-writing skill
  • Experience in community sensitization/ mobilization
  • Excellent computer skills

Working Hours:

The Focal Point will work 5 days a week with an average of 30 weekly working hours.
