Consultant (Health and Nutrition Knowledge, Practices and Coverage Household Survey Analysis and Report Consultancy 2025-Lebanon)

Medair has been working with health centres in the Bekaa Valley since 2014, in addition to implementing an extensive community outreach programme through Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and Community Midwives (CMW). Medair currently supports six Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) across Baalbek-Hermel, Bekaa, and Mount Lebanon through the provision of human resources, medicines, equipment, capacity building, and technical supervision. These efforts aim to improve access to primary health care including Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services through decreasing financial barriers, increasing quality of available services and improving community resilience through increased knowledge and practice of preventive and curative health, nutrition and hygiene behaviours.

Current Project Objectives

The ongoing health project aims to:

  • Improve access to primary health care and vaccination services, particularly for women and children under five.
  • Improve the quality of health care services provided by supported healthcare facilities.
  • Increase community knowledge and practice of improved health, nutrition, and hygiene behaviours, particularly among families with children under five.
  • Increase access to psychosocial support in the community and mental health services in PHC facilities.

Key Focus Area

These objectives include specific health targets for families with children under five, such as:

  • Health seeking behaviours
  • Diarrhoea and respiratory tract infection management for children
  • Vaccinations
  • Reproductive health management
  • Infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices for children under 2 years-old
  • Access to reproductive and psychosocial services.

Purpose of the consultancy

To measure progress against project indicators, a standardized annual Knowledge, Practice, and Coverage (KPC) household survey is conducted with a random sample of Syrian and Lebanese mothers in the Medair-supported Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) project areas. These surveys provide data to track progress on project indicators versus baseline, previous KPC surveys, and global standards, and offer critical evidence for Medair, the MoPH, and donors on the status of community health in the Bekaa Valley and other regions of interest, guiding future decision-making, advocacy, and program development.
