Parenting Skills Trainer

1. Background

 The Lebanese Democratic women’s Gathering- RDFL is a secular non-governmental women's organization which works with the democratic forces and represents a part of the advocacy of secular democratic women’s movement, on the basis of international pacts and treaties, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Universal Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in order to promote women’s status and participation and empower them, aiming at achieving full equality between both sexes .

RDFL is part of a consortium implementing an Irish Aid-funded empowerment project aimed at enhancing the agency and autonomy of women in Lebanon. This component focuses on strengthening the protective environment for women, girls, boys, and men in the Beqaa Valley through:

  • Awareness-raising activities
  • Provision of psychological support
  • Response services for survivors and their families
  • Effective engagement with key social and community entities

The Parenting Skills Training is part of this initiative, contributing to positive parenting practices, family wellbeing, and the overall protective environment for children and caregivers.

 

2. Objective of the Assignment

The parenting skills Trainer will be responsible for designing and delivering interactive training sessions to parents and caregiver, aiming to strengthen positive parenting practices, enhance communication within families and support the healthy development and wellbeing of children.

3. Scope of Work

The Parenting Skills Trainer will be responsible for:

The Trainer will conduct 2 parenting skills sessions for each group.

The total target groups are 10 groups: 8 groups of women and 2 groups of men.

The overall target beneficiaries are 200 caregivers: 160 women and 40 men.

  • Develop a training curriculum tailored to the needs of both mothers and fathers.
  • Deliver 20 sessions (2 per group) using interactive, culturally sensitive, and participatory methods.
  • Provide practical tools, role plays and exercises that parents can apply at home.
  • Monitor participants’ progress and provide feedback.
  • Submit brief session reports and recommendations for future training. 

4. Key Training Areas

The training should cover the following core topics:

  • Positive Discipline techniques: Teaching caregivers non-violent and respectful ways to guide children’s behavior and set boundaries.
  •  child development stages: Helping parents understand the physical, emotional and cognitive milestones children go through at different ages.
  •  communication and bonding with children: Strengthening parent-child relationships through active listening, empathy, and shared activities.
  •  Managing stress and promoting parental wellbeing: Equipping parents with coping strategies to handle daily pressures and maintain their own mental health.
  •  conflict resolution and problem-solving within the family: Supporting families to address disagreements constructively and find solutions together

5. Methodology 

The Parenting Skills sessions will be delivered using a participatory and interactive approach, ensuring that parents and caregivers are actively engaged and can relate the content to their daily lives. The methodology will include:

  • Short presentations to introduce core concepts in simple and clear language.
  • Group discussions to share experiences, challenges, and strategies among participants.
  • Role plays and case studies to practice parenting skills in real-life scenarios.
  • Practical exercises and take-home activities encourage parents to apply what they learn at home.
  • Visual aids and handouts adapted to different literacy levels for better understanding.
  • Feedback and reflection sessions at the end of each training to assess learning and adjust content as needed.

This blended approach ensures that the sessions are practical, culturally appropriate, and empowering, rather than theoretical lectures.

 

6. Deliverables 

The Parenting Skills Trainer is expected to provide the following deliverables:

  1. Training curriculum/agenda adapted to the needs of women and men caregivers (to be approved before sessions start).
  2. Delivery of 20 parenting skills sessions (2 sessions per group across 10 groups: 8 groups of women and 2 groups of men).
  3. Attendance sheets for each session, documenting participants’ presence.
  4. Training materials and handouts used during the sessions.
  5. Pre- and post-training evaluations (questionnaires or short assessments) to measure changes in knowledge and skills.
  6. Final narrative report summarizing the training process, participant feedback, challenges, successes, and recommendations.

 

7. Timeline

  • September 2025
    • Recruitment and contracting of Parenting Skills Trainer
    • Development and approval of training curriculum/agenda
    • Preparation of training materials and handouts
    • Coordination with groups and scheduling sessions
  • October 2025
    • Delivery of sessions for first 5 groups (10 sessions: 2 per group)
    • Collection of attendance sheets and pre/post evaluations
    • Mid-progress check-in with project coordinator
  • November 2025
    • Delivery of sessions for remaining 5 groups (10 sessions: 2 per group)
    • Collection of attendance sheets and pre/post evaluations
    • Final reflection and feedback sessions with participants
    • Submission of final report and recommendations

 

8. Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in psychology, social work, education, or related field.
  • Proven experience in delivering parenting skills or family support training.
  • Strong facilitation and group management skills.
  • Knowledge of child protection principles and positive discipline approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills in Arabic [and English/French if relevant].
  • Ability to adapt training content to different literacy levels and cultural contexts.

 

Duration & Level of Effort

  • The assignment includes delivery of 20 sessions across 10 groups.
  • Training will be conducted in RDFL’s Bekaa Branch (Douris): in-person

 

Reporting

The Parenting Skills Trainer will report to theProject Manager/Program.
