SITUATION OVERVIEW

Heavy rains on 31 August triggered a devastating landslide in Tarsin village, Sharg Aj Jabal locality, South Darfur State. The landslide struck a remote, mountainous area following days of continuous downpours that saturated the steep terrain.

The location of Tarsin village deep in the Jebel Marra mountains, combined with the ongoing rains, makes access extremely difficult. The terrain is rugged, and families in the affected area remain exposed to further risks as the rainy season continues.

Reaching the village proved extremely difficult. Due to the mountainous terrain and ongoing downpours, aid workers were forced to transport supplies on donkeys. The delivery of relief supplies took up to 12 hours across steep and waterlogged paths, reflecting the extraordinary challenges of reaching the people in need.
