The Community Care Worker (CCW) plays a key role in identifying vulnerable children and families in the community and ensuring they are referred to and supported through MAKANI services. CCWs are the bridge between the MAKANI center and the community, helping raise awareness, promote inclusion, support case management, and monitor children's well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Community Outreach and Engagement
Identify and reach out to vulnerable children, adolescents, and families in the community.
Conduct regular home visits to assess needs, promote MAKANI services, and provide follow-up.
Raise awareness about the importance of education, child protection, psychosocial well-being, and health.
2. Referrals and Case Identification
Refer at-risk children and families to MAKANI centers for appropriate services (e.g. education, protection, psychosocial support).
Support social workers in identifying children in need of specialized case management.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold child safeguarding principles in all referrals.
3. Psychosocial Support and Follow-Up
Provide basic psychosocial support and listening services to children and caregivers.
Assist with group activities and sessions under the supervision of the social worker or psychologist.
Monitor changes in behavior or well-being of children and report concerns.
4. Documentation and Reporting
Keep clear and accurate records of home visits, referrals, and follow-up actions.
Provide weekly or monthly updates to supervisors on outreach activities.
Report any protection concerns or incidents following the organization's procedures.
5. Community Mobilization
Support the organization of community awareness sessions and events.
Promote inclusion of marginalized groups (e.g., children with disabilities, out-of-school youth).
Encourage caregiver involvement in child development and protection initiatives.
Qualifications:
- A degree in social work, education, or community development is an asset.
- Prior experience working with children, youth, or vulnerable communities preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of child protection and confidentiality principles.
- Familiarity with the local context and community dynamics.
- Commitment to humanitarian values and child rights.
