Instructional Designer | AUB GHI

The Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), is seeking an instructional designer to join its team.

The instructional designer will work closely with the Academy e-learning team on a variety of tasks including but not restricted to:

Curriculum & Course Design

• Design and develop engaging, learner-centered courses and training materials for health and humanitarian topics.

• Transform existing content into interactive Storyline modules integrated with Moodle for seamless learner experience.

• Structure content to include clear learning objectives, knowledge checks, and practical application exercises.

• Support the development of curriculum maps, course outlines, and assessments aligned with instructional design best practices.

Multimedia Content Creation

• Create high-quality, visually appealing learning assets including graphics, infographics, interactive diagrams, and videos.

• Use Canva and other visual tools to design educational visuals that match GHI’s branding and enhance engagement.

• Integrate multimedia and interactivity (e.g., voice-overs, animations, interactive timelines, clickable maps) to improve comprehension and retention.

Gamification & Interactivity

• Incorporate engaging interactive features in Storyline modules (e.g., branching scenarios, simulations, pop-ups, quizzes).

• Enhance learner motivation through gamification techniques such as badges, progress tracking, and milestones within Moodle.

• Test and iterate on interactive elements for an intuitive user experience.

Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)

• Partner with GHI’s technical teams and global health experts to translate complex content into clear, practical, and accessible learning experiences.

• Lead design consultations to capture requirements and ensure content accuracy and relevance.

• Provide creative input on curriculum flow, activity design, and learner engagement strategies.

Instructional Design Best Practices

• Apply evidence-based frameworks such as ADDIE, SAM, UDL, and Bloom’s Taxonomy to ensure high-quality, learner-focused experiences.

• Embed accessibility and inclusivity standards (e.g., WCAG) in all digital content.

• Continuously evaluate and improve digital learning solutions based on user feedback and performance metrics.

Qualifications and Application

Required Skills and Competencies

• Bachelor or master’s degree in education, instructional design, social sciences, or any other related fields

• Experience designing and developing interactive online learning programs, preferably in professional or technical fields.

• Strong proficiency in Articulate Storyline 360 and Moodle.

• Visual design skills using Canva or similar tools for learning visuals and infographics.

• Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM).

• Ability to create clear, measurable learning objectives, storyboards, scripts, and assessments.

• Multimedia production skills (basic video/audio editing, interactive graphics creation).

• Excellent English communication and writing skills; Arabic is an asset.

• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

Technical Skills

• Learning Platforms: Moodle (or other LMS platforms).

• Authoring Tools: Articulate Storyline 360, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (basic), animation tools (a plus).

• Productivity Tools: Microsoft Office / Google Workspace.

About the Global Health Institute

Established in 2017, the Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) is the first global health institute in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and is one of the very few in the Global South. GHI addresses global health challenges with a focus on context and sustainable impact by employing an interdisciplinary approach. The primary focus of GHI are challenges that are affecting the MENA region, but have relevance to and impact on other regions in the global south.

The work of GHI is defined by three divisions: (1) GHI Programs, which focus on generating contextspecific research, policy, and advocacy to address major global health challenges in the region, (2) GHI ASSIST, which provides community-based services and interventions to address the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations, and (3) GHI Academy which delivers contextualized global health education to various populations through smart and innovative learning modalities.

The selection process will include an initial shortlisting phase where shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a practical exercise. Candidates who successfully pass this stage will then be invited for an interview. The successful candidate will be based at the Global Health Institute offices and will be required to start immediately after the time of acceptance. The selected candidate will be reporting directly to the Academy Division Manager.
