UNICEF Syrian Arab Republic Humanitarian Situation Report No. 14 - August 2025

Highlights

  • Since December 2024, nearly 1.86 million internally displaced persons and over 1 million Syrian refugees have returned to their areas of origin. Many are facing significant challenges due to damaged infrastructure, limited services, and ongoing insecurity.
  • The humanitarian situation in As-Sweida remains critical following the hostilities in July, with at least 187,000 people displaced and access to essential services and protection severely limited.
  • During the first eight months of 2025, Syria recorded 642 explosive ordnance incidents, causing 468 civilian deaths and 711 injuries. Nearly one-third of the casualties are children.
  • Since January 2025, UNICEF and its partners have delivered essential services to over 7.5 million people across Syria, including in Health, Nutrition, Education, WASH, Child Protection and Social Protection. Children represent 56 per cent of those reached.
  • UNICEF Syria's Humanitarian appeal is only 31 per cent funded. Urgent support is needed to sustain life-saving humanitarian operations and protect vulnerable children across Syria.
