Literacy Teachers in Nahr El-Bared Camp

I) About Developmental Action without Borders, Naba'a:

Developmental Action without Borders - Naba’a, is a Lebanese NGO operational since 2001. Registered under the Ministry of Interior (no. 104/AD), Naba’a is dedicated to serving all marginalized communities in Lebanon, especially children, without distinction of nationality, color, race, or religion. This includes communities within camps and gatherings in Lebanon, as well as local Lebanese communities.

II) Nabaa's Employment Screening and Protection Protocol: 

Developmental Action without Borders, Naba’a, does not employ individuals who are married to children (persons under 18). Naba’a enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority, and discrimination. All prospective candidates must undergo thorough reference and background checks which will mainly verify employment history, professional performance, and adherence to the aforementioned policies. Furthermore, the selected candidates must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening or an equivalent criminal record check as a condition of employment.

III. The Literacy Teacher Will Carry the Following Deliverables:

1. Preparation and Documents Handling:

Handling the required personal profiles and documents of students

Completing daily preparation and documentation such as lesson plans and attendance sheets

2. Assess Students’ Needs:

Conduct individualized assessments to identify students’ learning challenges and areas of improvement.

Collaborate with caregivers to gather insights into students’ academic progress and needs by conducting home visits and coordinating parents meeting

3. Develop Customized Literacy Plans:

Design literacy lesson plans for students, considering their specific learning requirements and goals

Create engaging and age-appropriate learning materials literacy activities

4. Implement Literacy Sessions:

Conduct literacy sessions and activities for students, focusing on improving their reading, and writing skills in Arabic through using various teaching strategies and resources to address learning difficulties effectively.

Conduct literacy session through using various methodologies such as play-based learning, learner-centered methods, socio-emotional integration, and inclusive education.

5. Monitoring and Evaluating Progress:

Continuously track and evaluate students’ progress adjusting plans as needed to ensure measurable improvement.

Maintain detailed records of each student’s performance and development.

 Implement reading-level assessments and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.

6. Foster a supportive Learning Environment:

Build a positive and encouraging relationship with students to boost their self-esteem and motivation

Create a safe and inclusive classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help

Insert active learning techniques in the lesson plan and classroom activities

7. Collaborate with Education Staff and Parents:

Communicate regularly with the educational team to share progress updates and discuss strategies for improvement.

Participate in parent-teacher meetings to provide insights into students’ academic progress.

8. Safety and Protection:

Present complete commitment to Nabaa’s protection policies such as child protection, PSEAH, complaint mechanism and anti-corruption policies and code of conduct

Guarantee children’s safety and security on all levels

Refer cases to the caseworker once concerns are raised that a child subjected to abuse or is at risk

Use inclusive education principles in the sessions

9. Other duties and responsibilities:

Performing other relevant duties and responsibility if assigned

IV) Qualifications and Competencies:  

1. Academic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a Teaching Diploma or any other field 

2. Professional Qualifications:

1 year of experience in teaching children especially Arabic (a must).

Experience with play-based learning and inclusive education methodologies is an asset.

3. Competencies / Soft Skills (as needed for performing selected deliverables)

Strong organizational and planning skills

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Strong Leadership skills

Creative thinking and creative mindset

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.

Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching students.

Professional problem-solving and team work skills

Openness to feedback and continuous learning

Cultural sensitivity and ability to engage effectively with parents and community members

4. Competencies / Technical Skills (as needed for performing selected deliverables)

Strong understanding of the educational challenges faced by students.

Strong understanding of Child rights, safeguarding and socio-economical learning.

Computer literacy in outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet

Effective lesson planning and report writing skills

Understanding of child rights and child protection

Cultural Sensitivity and engagement with parents and the community

Good knowledge in English Language

A strong command of Arabic Language (writing and pronunciation in Formal Arabic)
