The Psychotherapist will provide high-quality, evidence-based psychological assessment and diagnosis within a community-focused mental health program. This role is crucial in delivering accessible mental health care to a diverse population, often working closely with primary care providers to support integrated physical and mental health. The psychotherapist will manage a caseload of individuals and groups presenting with a wide range of mental health concerns, including but not limited to, common mental illnesses, psychosocial stressors, and emotional distress.
Clinical Care and Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and clinical interviews to determine the patient’s needs, presenting issues, history, and goals.
- Formulate differential diagnoses according to the latest diagnostic criteria (e.g., DSM-5) where appropriate.
- Provide individual and group psychotherapy for patients addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, stress management, and adjustment disorders.
- Offer crisis intervention and de-escalation support as needed, coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
- Integrate treatment with existing primary care and medical services within the dispensary model.
Documentation and Administration
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in compliance with professional, ethical, and legal standards.
- Complete necessary administrative tasks, including progress notes, treatment summaries, discharge planning, and required program reports.
- Track and measure client outcomes and progress using standardized clinical tools.
Collaboration and Community Engagement
- Act as a key member of a multidisciplinary team, regularly consulting with dispensary physicians, nurses, social workers, and other staff.
- Facilitate referrals to specialized mental health services, external agencies, or higher levels of care when clinically indicated.
Skills and Competencies
- Clinical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of various psychotherapeutic theories and techniques, especially those effective in brief interventions.
- Cultural Competence: Ability to work effectively with clients from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex clinical information clearly and sensitively.
- Ethical Practice: Adherence to the highest ethical and professional standards of practice and confidentiality.
