JOB DETAILS 

 

Project title: QALAM - Building Bridges to Safe, Inclusive, and Quality Education - AID 013146.01.0 

Duration: 12 months  

Location: Lebanon, Tyre and Nabatiyeh Governorates   

Duty Station: The local coordinator is expected to work mainly in the field, ensuring availability to attend meetings in person at the Beirut office at least once per week and carry out regular field visits to the schools involved in the project. 

Contract Type: Full-time, Fixed term  

Reporting to: Head of Mission  

Salary: As per UPP scale  

Hours: 40 hours per week (FTE)

Un Ponte Per (UPP) is an Italian NGO established in 1991. It started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, in the aftermath of the first Gulf war, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in support of the Iraqi civilian population. UPP missions expanded to include other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. UPP aims at preventing armed conflicts, protecting human rights and supporting local civil society, especially in the Middle East, by promoting the nexus between its humanitarian, peacebuilding and development programs. Project description:   

The project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), aims at contributing to quality improvement and modernization of education system in Lebanon, following the policies of MEHE and focusing on the most vulnerable and affected areas in the Governorates of Nabatiyeh and Tyre in South Lebanon.   

The project is expected to achieve the following results:  

R1. Improved schools' learning environments to ensure safety and inclusivity for children, teachers, parents, and caregivers.   

R2. Improved children learning outcomes, retention and social emotional well-being   

R3 Strengthened teachers' capacities in digitalization, inclusive education, first aid, and emergency response. 

The selected local coordinator will collaborate to achieve the objectives set within the project funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), under the coordination of the Project Manager from UPP and in partnership with local partners organizations (Amel and NPA) in order to ensure the compliance and effective implementation of the project in full adherence to the rules, norms, procedures and policies  from the donor and UPP.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

- Coordinating on the field all activities managed by UPP and its partners;  

- Ensuring constant and regular coordination with local project stakeholders, including schools, its staff and principles, Municipalities and MEHE at local level for the development and implementation of the planned activities; 

- Support and coordinate with the Project Manager and all the other project staff in the development and implementation of the project work plan;  

- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure the availability of materials needed for the implementation of the work on time and support procurement activities in the field;  

- Provide input and support for procurement and logistics related to field activities; 

- Regularly supervise the activities implemented and ensure that the work plan proceeds as established; 

- Conduct regular field visits to ensure progress, verify implementation, and identify challenges, according to the needs and in agreement with UPP management team; 

- Document project results and gather data for monitoring and evaluation in coordination with UPP MEAL staff, draft regular activity reports; 

- Ensure proper documentation and archiving of project documents and attendance sheets; 

- Contribute to the creation of visibility contents and materials in coordination with UPP management team; 

- Support the coordination of visibility actions and ensure compliance with AICS visibility guidelines and requirements. 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

- Bachelor's degree  

- At least 3 years' experience in a similar position and in the field of development cooperation or humanitarian response;  

- Familiarity and previous experience in Tyre and Nabatiyeh Governorates, 

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including local and governmental stakeholders;  

- Knowledge of the context in the areas of intervention is a plus;  

- Ability to write reports in English;  

- Ability to use main office tools (Office suite, word, excel, ppt);  

- Knowledge of English and Arabic (written and spoken). 

- Previous experience in projects related to education is a plus; 

- Valid driving license and willingness to travel frequently within the region.
