Re-advertised School Focal Point Position - Education Program

Job Overview / Summary:

The School Focal Point will be responsible for the delivery and monitoring of quality education services in the assigned locations and support of activities, outreach and implementation in the Beirut and Mount Lebanon governorates. S/He will be directly supervising Classroom Observers and indirectly the Outreach Volunteers/Youth Community Mobilizers. The position will work closely with the field coordinator, and Monitoring and Evaluation team. The position will be under the supervision of the field coordinator.

Main responsibilities:

Outreach & Enrollment

  • Participate in Out of School Mapping and outreach activities covering non-Lebanese and Lebanese children within the Beirut and Mount Lebanon governorates.
  • Work closely with Outreach Volunteers/Youth Community Mobilizers to ensure proper service mapping is done and the Out of School children are being identified and referred to Dirasa schools or other education pathways.
  • Identify private and semi-private schools and establish contacts with local authorities and local actors.

 School Follow-up & Quality Assurance

  • Supervise Classroom Observers to ensure quality education, through proper and regular communication and follow up.
  • Follow up on children’s attendance at school level and ensure safety and retention of children, through home visits, awareness sessions, and follow-up phone calls.
  • Ensure deliverables and targets are met in coordination with the field coordinator to ensure high-quality education is provided.
  • Ensure that learning activities in all assigned locations respond to quality education standards.

 School Support & Extracurricular Activities

  • Follow up on establishment of school clubs and support school directors in implementing the program's different components.
  • Design and follow up on community initiatives.
  • Support the school staff in the planning and the implementation of regular extracurricular activities.
  • Increase youth engagement and job opportunities for skilled youth at school level (data entry, support in community engagement and outreach).

 Inclusion & Child Protection

  • Ensure the inclusion of children with special needs in the educational classes and their referrals to the Inclusion Officer.
  • Support schools to establish a clear referral pathway at school level to cover the needs of different children.
  • Coordinate with the Inclusion Focal Point to ensure proper identification, referral, and support for children with special needs.

Caregiver & Community Engagement

  • Support the school staff in identifying caregivers to be engaged in the awareness program for parents and in organizing the sessions.
  • Support the engagement of caregivers and parents in children’s learning by establishing a Parent Teacher Association at identified schools.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate parenting training and awareness sessions to the community members and community events in close coordination with the Community Engagement Officer.

Administration & Coordination

  • Ensure needed documents such as MoU are signed and followed by the school.
  • Coordinate with school personnel to ensure that the materials’ distribution process is implemented in a timely manner.
  • Support the distribution of school supplies and stationery for all children enrolled in the targeted schools.

Technical Support / Teaching & Learning

  • Support schools in designing and implementing extra-curricular activities including school clubs, sports activities, and different school/community events.
  • Support schools in the hiring process of teachers where applicable (based on the set criteria developed by UNICEF).
  • Conduct classroom observations and mentoring sessions in the assigned locations.
  • Monitor teacher qualifications and ensure that the staff hired meets the criteria developed and endorsed by MEHE.
  • Follow up on the proper implementation of the curriculum and teachers’ attendance.
  • Organize Teachers Learning Circles (TLCs) activities on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure Child Safeguarding is maintained in all schools.
  • Strengthen learning by supporting the embedding of digital technologies in all teaching, learning, and assessment activities by providing digital devices (hardware) and digital components (learning platforms).

Data Collection & Reporting

  • In coordination with MEAL Officer and the field coordinator, perform baseline and endline surveys for targeted children (Syrians and Lebanese) and communities.
  • Collect data needed for monthly and quarterly reports using dedicated monitoring tools, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Children Satisfaction Surveys, in coordination with the field coordinator.
  • Report on the project progress in the assigned locations, including quantitative data and success stories.
  • Ensure the quality of data collection in the assigned locations and provide feedback on challenges in data collection processes and tools.
  • Support school staff in collecting all needed data related to students and their performance: child registration, family assessment forms, pre/post-tests, and other information related to project activities.
  • Support the data entry volunteer/IM focal point per school in updating the database system and Child Level Monitoring with data and attendance.
  • The School Focal Point may assist in additional tasks and carry other responsibilities which are not mentioned above, depending on the needs of the education program.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:

  • University degree in social science, education, pedagogy, or related field
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of working in the humanitarian sector, preferably in the educational field.
  • Good knowledge in the Child Protection core principles.
  • Demonstrating professional facilitation skills and experience.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in collaboration with multiple stakeholders and staff members.
  • Experience in data gathering and analyses (Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge in context and localities in Beirut and Mount Lebanon governorates is a must
