School Kitchen Assistant (Temnine Al Tahta & Zahle)

The School Kitchen Assistant supports the School Kitchen Supervisor in monitoring and coordinating the implementation of school feeding activities. This role involves field visits to schools, conducting monitoring activities, coordinating with school staff and volunteer mothers, and ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. The Assistant provides essential support to ensure efficient program operations and quality service delivery.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Support monitoring of project activities at assigned schools during both AM and PM shifts as needed.
  • Conduct regular field visits to schools to monitor meal preparation and distribution processes.
  • Coordinate daily with schools to confirm attendance, follow up on meal distribution, and manage leftover quantities.
  • Conduct monthly headcount exercises at schools, recording attendance data by gender and shift.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteer mothers on meal preparation procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with food safety norms and hygiene standards during all stages of implementation.
  • Follow the cleaning schedule and fill the related checklists on the opening and closing of each shift.
  • Support the distribution of food items (such as oil and rice) at schools, including organization, documentation, and verification.
  • Check orders for accuracy, confirm quality, quantity, and specifications, and approve receipt of supplies.
  • Support inventory management and tracking of supplies at school locations.
  • Support the traceability system and FIFO strategy to ensure proper storage of raw materials.
  • Coordinate with health educators and school staff on project implementation.
  • Assess, discuss, and address program challenges with the School Kitchen Supervisor and Project Coordinator.
  • Assist in data entry and maintaining monitoring databases and tracking systems of monitoring visits and activities.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and coordination sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to work closely with others in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Sheets).
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to field locations.
  • Ability to work based on a flexible schedule including extended hours when needed.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English; French is a plus.

Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience in monitoring, coordination, or field work is preferred.
  • Experience in NGO or humanitarian field is an advantage.
  • Experience in food service, catering, or school feeding programs is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Extensive field work in Temnine El Tahta with multiple visits to different schools across Zahle.
  • Frequent travel between sites throughout the day.
  • Visits to office for meetings, trainings, and administrative work.
  • Preferable that candidate resides in the relevant area.
