Specialized Technician

Main Purpose

Performing autonomously, specific complex / advanced installation, maintenance works and repairs depending on technician’s specialization (requiring special/qualifications/training), according to supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, in order to ensure a proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment, installations and infrastructures

 

Accountabilities

  • Performing autonomously, all necessary complex / advanced installations, maintenance and repairs (i.e. requiring special qualifications/training), according to the supervisor’s instructions and executes any needed tests after any repair or maintenance. Including the following functions:

- Biomed Technician

- Qualified Electrician

- Qualified Mechanic

  • Making suggestions (fixing by himself most cases) regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations, equipment, generator and/or vehicles and assisting logistics department for any relative work needed.
  • Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage (to be moved to logbase).
  • Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
  • Keeping working area clean and tidy.
  • Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to logistical maintenance are always completed. Preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
  • Immediately informing the line manager of any problems that arise in the course of the work, particularly with regard to damage, loss, theft or attempted break-ins
  • Working in collaboration with other specialised technicians and workers, if necessary, or managing a small team of workers.

 

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

 

Biomed:

  • Organizing and participating in the installation of biomedical equipment
  • Following the schedule and carrying out preventive and curative maintenance works for the equipment according to the MSF and/or manufacturer's protocols, manuals, and recommendations and ensuring that cleaning and simple maintenance are properly carried out by medical staff
  • Reporting any issues or problems on biomed equipment to his/her supervisor and proposing solutions (training of staff on a device, operating procedures, etc.). If maintenance work requires further assistance, documentation or additional tools, this shall be requested from and provided by his/her supervisor.
  • Participating in organising user training where required
 

Electrical:

  • Carrying out critical rehabilitation tasks and corrective maintenance interventions and the coordination and execution of required tasks as well as installation of needed electrical equipment as defined by the project. Elaborating the necessary documentation for carrying out energy installations projects (plans, list of materials, etc.)
  • Performing annual maintenance procedures and safety checks across facilities in the project. Executing any needed tests after any repair or maintenance.
  • Making suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations and equipment and assisting logistics department with any urgent support/advice or any relative work needed
  • Responsible for the equipment and tools (including extinguishers), checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.

Mechanic

  • Monitor and track scheduled vehicle/generator maintenance timelines.
  • Coordinate with external service providers to ensure timely servicing of the vehicle.
  • Maintain service records and report any issues to line manager
  • Independently perform routine and preventive maintenance on generators according to MSF standard.
  • Identify issues requiring major repairs or overhauls beyond routine maintenance.
  • Coordinate with line manager to ensure that minimum amount of spare parts/consumables are available and inventoried

Watsan

  • Manage daily water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities including water supply, waste management, and vector control.
  • Conduct water quality testing, specifically bacteriological analysis.
  • Oversee the chlorination system to maintain acceptable chlorine level.
  • Contribute to data collection and reporting system.

 

 

Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering: mechanical, biomedical and electrical engineering

Experience

  • Essential minimum 2-year experience in handling biomedical equipment, generator maintenances and electrical installations.
  • Desirable work experience in humanitarian organization

 

Languages                      

  • Arabic: Fluent (essential)
  • English: Very good command (essential)

 

Knowledge                      

  • Essential literacy in computer (MS office, excel)
  • Basic knowledge in asset management
