PSS Facilitator

Job Summary

The Psychosocial Support (PSS) Facilitator is responsible for providing psychological and emotional support to individuals or groups facing various forms of distress, trauma, or crisis. This role is crucial in helping people cope with challenging life situations, such as disasters, conflicts, or personal crises. The facilitator plays a vital role in promoting the emotional and psychological well-being of individuals and communities by providing counseling, guidance, and support to help them navigate trauma, stress, and other psychosocial challenges.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Psychosocial support provision:
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to identify the needs and concerns of individuals or groups.
  • Screen for mental health issues, trauma, and psychosocial vulnerabilities.
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions to address emotional, psychological, and social needs.
  • Provide emotional support and active listening to individuals experiencing distress.
  • Develop and implement tailored psychosocial support sessions based on beneficiaries' needs, following established curricula.
  • Raise awareness about protection and provide individuals with strategies to protect themselves and seek help.
  • Collaborate with other professionals during emergencies to ensure the safety and well-being of beneficiaries.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of PSS activities and make necessary adjustments based on participant feedback and evaluation outcomes in coordination with program coordinator.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in appropriate locations that meet minimum standards.
  • Ensure that all activities are culturally sensitive and inclusive, particularly for marginalized groups.
  • Inform all beneficiaries about the Feedback and Complaint Mechanism.
  • Conduct focus group discussions, surveys, and interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders, to gather feedback and assess program impact.
  • Organize and participate in events to promote protection and well-being within the community.

 

 

 

  • Community Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key community members, local leaders, and relevant stakeholders.
    • Work collaboratively with communities to identify psychosocial needs and develop community-based support systems.
    • Train community members or volunteers to assist in delivering psychosocial support activities, fostering sustainability.
    •  Organize and facilitate support groups and community activities that promote overall well-being.
    • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to engage directly with community members and understand their perspectives and concerns.
    • Represent the organization at a local level, when needed.
    • Carry out any other tasks as required by the Project Coordinator.

 

  • Detection and referral:
  • Identify and report medium/high-risk cases to case management for further intervention.
  • Ensure beneficiaries have access to necessary services by referring them to appropriate actors.

 

  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare brief reports on project activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned for internal use.
    • Maintain accurate records of beneficiaries, including attendance sheets, transportation logs and evaluation forms.
    • Complete the monitoring and evaluation tools as per the project requirement.
    • Document success stories, challenges faced, lessons learned, and best practices to contribute to knowledge sharing within the organization.

 

  • Professional Development:
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions and capacity-building opportunities to enhance skills.
  • Engage in supervision sessions to discuss challenges faced in the field and share best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social work, Psychology, Sociology or any other related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in the humanitarian sector providing psychosocial support or mental health services, preferably with vulnerable communities.
  • Strong knowledge of protection principles related to mental health and well-being.
  • Familiarity with local cultural dynamics, social norms, and political context in North Lebanon.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills; the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in challenging environments while maintaining professionalism.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic; proficiency in English is required
  • Adherence to SHiFT's internal policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policies.

Conditions

  • Full-Time working hours: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm.
  • Willingness to travel abroad for meetings and conferences (where applicable).
