About ABAAD

ABAAD– Resource Center for Gender Equality is a UN ECOSOC accredited organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region.

ABAAD advocates for the development and implementation of policies and laws that enhance women’s effective participation, through a rights-based approach that would bring about tangible change to gender justice.

With the purpose of ending gender-based violence, ABAAD adopts a holistic care approach to provide protection and support services to GBV survivors/right holders during times of peace, war and disasters since 2011.

 

About the project

In partnership with the Norwegian Church aid, Abaad is currently working on a project to combat GBV in Lebanon through a comprehensive multi-layered intervention that empowers survivors, engage men and strengthens access to protection services by combining survivor centred support with targeted awareness raising and male focused behavioural interventions. The project address both the immediate needs o those affected by GBV and the underlying social norms that perpetuate it. Thus, Abaad is seeking the expertise of a third-party consultancy to support in enhancing our men engagement activities.

 

Overall goal of this assignment

The overall goal of this assignment is to provide assistance to the project team in the implementation of a set of activities that focuses around men engagement in a timely manner.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead on the Translation, re-designing, printing, and redistribution of Abaad developed Stress and Anger Management curriculum with direct coordination with Abaad’s Masculinities technical advisor.

Abaad has developed and validated a curriculum, and accompanied manual, on Stress and Anger Management specifically for men. This curriculum focuses on how to discuss issues mental health with men from various communities all around Lebanon. This manual also strategically builds active report and trust with groups of men in order to discuss the importance of attending to their mental health while shedding light on sociocultural and gendered obstacles to men's mental health practices and behaviors. In order to better meet the burgeoning demand for resources and curriculums designed for men's mental health awareness and to promote this curriculums’ usage in the Men Center and other mental health settings, it is need of the following:

  1. Translation of the manual into Arabic.
  2. Redesigning and reprinting of the Stress and Anger manual.
  3. Printing of English and Arabic copies

 

  • Comic Book creation and printing to promote Men Center services and the ‘5 P’s’ approach developed by Abaad
  1. Develop and design A series of comic book stories with the goal of, both, promoting the services provided within the Men Center, as well as the ‘5P's approach’ to increase the reflection and advancement of practices of healthy and non-violent masculinities in Lebanon.
  2. These resources will tell stories based on cases from beneficiaries previously engaged in services within the Men Center consultant should coordinate closely with Masculinities technical advisor on this task.
  3. This resource should have a unique format to ensure that this information is easily accessible and digestible. This will entail Personalizing the issues that many men experience in their everyday lives, especially when trauma, conflict or stress is highly present, and ultimately showcase the benefit/ positive impact engaging with the Men Center and partaking in mental services would have on their overall wellbeing.

Skills required

  •  Knowledge of gender equality and GBV principles and ability to ensure appropriate messaging
  • Capacity to develop clear, accurate and sensitive content
  • Accurate English–Arabic translation and adaptation
  • Strong communication skills for gathering requirements and managing revisions
  • Good coordination and workflow organization between design, translation, illustration and printing
  • Time management and ability to deliver on schedule
  • Graphic design expertise in visual concept, layout, typography and color management
  • Proficiency with professional design software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop or equivalent)
  • Illustration and artwork creation, including characters, icons and visual elements
  • Visual storytelling for comic format: panel composition, sequencing and readability
  • Pre-press preparation for printing, including file setup, CMYK profiles, bleed and margins
  • Familiarity with printing materials and finishing such as paper types, lamination and varnish
  • Quality control of proofs and final printed outputs.
