Medical Manager (Subject to Donor Approval)

The purpose of this role is to ensure the effective management and coordination of all medical activities within MAG Lebanon, supporting high operational efficiency and compliance with MAG medical SOPs, NMAS, and IMAS standards. The role oversees the performance and professional development of medics, including monitoring their knowledge and skills, and contributes to the design, delivery, and evaluation of medical training programs and lessons. Additionally, the position ensures that medical equipment and vehicles are properly maintained and serviceable, liaises with local hospitals regarding standard procedures in Accident & Emergency departments, and conducts assessments of hospitals within MAG’s areas of operations to maintain up-to-date contacts and support for MEDEVAC situations.

 

Principal Responsibilities

Operational Support Responsibilities:

The Medical Manager will deal with all medical issues that arise within the programme, which includes:

  1. Conduct regular QA visits to MAG work sites and evaluate knowledge, skills and performance of the medical staff.
  2. Design, develop, deliver and evaluate appropriate medical training programs for Medics, Deminers and Support personnel.
  3. Coordinate with local hospitals for regular practice of MAG Medics at A&E department.
  4. Respond to requests for medical advice and assistance to all MAG Lebanon staff members.
  5. Ensure that the essential medical documentation on work sites is correct and regularly updated.
  6. Conduct Medical assessment on hospitals in MAG Area of Operations and provide contact details of the external medical support in case of MEDEVAC.
  7. Ensure high quality of medical support in coordination with the STM, Medical Coordinator and LMAC.
  8. Ensure that the STM and TFM are fully briefed on all medical issues and key difficulties arising.
  9. Participate in recruitment procedures for employment of MAG medical staff in conjunction with Medical Coordinator and MAG Lebanon HR.
  10. Ensure that accurate and thorough reports following investigation into all incidents/ accidents are completed and provided to STM with details of appropriate actions taken, in accordance with MAG policies and procedures.
  11. Act as a substitute for team medics in cases of leave or sickness.
  12. Perform other tasks as directed by the STM.
  13. Oversee the medical storeroom, ensuring that minimum stock levels of medical supplies are maintained. Also, oversee the issuance and replacement of any items that are removed or used, with a goal of ideally replenishing them within 24 hours. Additionally, consolidate all requests for replenishing items at their minimum stock levels and coordinate the procurement process with the Medical Coordinator and logistics department.

Occupational Health and Safety

  1. Approve all fit-to-work assessments for employees conducted by general practitioners, in coordination with HRAM.
  2.  Update and maintain tracker of annual fit-to-work assessments for operational staff.
  3. Coordinate with HR team regarding casualties and work-related medical incidents, providing necessary support.
  4. Monitor and advise on any medical cases observed in the field to ensure early intervention and timely response.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a qualified medical doctor or certified paramedic.
  • Proficiency in filing systems and data entry is essential.
  • Competency in computer applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • English language skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with relevant MAG operational reporting formats is an advantage.
  • Must meet the required standards of physical and mental fitness.

GENERAL

All MAG staff is expected to undertake the following general duties:

  • Work towards achieving departmental business plan objectives.
  • Work within the framework of MAG’s core values, promoting its ethos and mission statement.
  • Work as part of a team and liaise with other departments to ensure effective communications across the organization.
  • Ensure familiarity with and adhere to all MAG policies and procedures and Safeguarding framework.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information as required by MAG policies and procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as may be required.
  • Aware of gender mainstreaming and ready to participate in gender awareness courses/training
  • Able to work in a mixed team
  • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes.
  • Understand and uphold the standards outlined in MAG’s Safeguarding Framework, acting with due care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with MAG’s work and reporting concerns if they do arise.
