Agriculture Engineer - Sour District

Background: 

The ARDNA project aims to strengthen the resilience of crisis-affected communities in South Lebanon by restoring sustainable livelihoods, with a strong focus on agriculture, vocational skills, and climate-resilient practices. As part of Phase I, a multi-functional livelihood and resilience center will be established on AMEL-owned land in Derdghaya, providing hands-on agricultural training, post-training mentorship, and linkages with national institutions.

Overall Objective of the Position

To provide technical leadership and field-level support for agricultural training, demonstration, and post-training mentorship under the ARDNA project, contributing to improved agricultural livelihoods, food security, and climate resilience for vulnerable community members—particularly women and youth.

Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities

A. Technical Planning & Implementation

  • Support the preparation, rehabilitation, and productive use of the ARDNA center land for agricultural training and demonstrations.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of climate-smart and agroecological practices, including soil management, water efficiency (e.g. drip irrigation), crop selection, and sustainable inputs.
  • Supervise practical agricultural activities, including nurseries, greenhouses, open-field cultivation, and demonstration plots.
  • Ensure all agricultural activities comply with environmental protection and safety standards.

B. Training & Capacity Building

  • Deliver hands-on agricultural training sessions for project participants, with adapted methodologies for women, youth, and smallholder farmers.
  • Develop the development and contextualization of agriculture training curricula in coordination with the project team and consultants.
  • Provide orientation and awareness to trainees on safe agricultural practices, including coordination with mandatory Mine Risk Education (MRE) sessions.
  • Contribute to employability-oriented approaches by linking agricultural skills to income-generation opportunities.

C. Post-Training Mentorship & Field Follow-up

  • Conduct post-training field visits to beneficiaries’ lands as part of agricultural mentorship.
  • Provide tailored technical advice to support the application of training in real farming conditions.
  • Identify challenges faced by beneficiaries and propose practical, locally appropriate solutions.
  • Provide beneficiaries with Agricultural training sessions.

D. Coordination & Institutional Linkages

  • Coordinate closely with the Field Coordinator and AMEL project team to ensure smooth implementation of agricultural activities.
  • Liaise with LARI regarding soil and water testing, interpretation of results, and application of recommendations.
  • Support coordination with municipalities, the Union of Municipalities, and other relevant local actors when needed.

E. Monitoring, Reporting & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain simple technical records of trainings, field visits, and demonstration activities.
  • Contribute to project monitoring by providing inputs on progress, challenges, and lessons learned, and recommendations.
  • Support MEAL processes by contributing to baseline, follow-up, and endline activities as requested.

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in providing training in agriculture and working in this field;
  • Strong knowledge in climate and smart agriculture;
  • Experience working with youth and vulnerable communities;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills;
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills;
  • Proficiency in management tools;
  • Experience working with vulnerable communities and population is a plus;
  • Desirable two years of relevant experience, previous experience in an NGO and humanitarian field is an advantage, preferably in Livelihood and Agriculture;
  • Flexibility to travel within the project area (South);
  • To believe in concepts of equity, human rights, neutrality and impartiality;
