Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in 1971. Today, MSF provides independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, and exclusion from health care or natural disasters. MSF in Lebanon currently has 2 projects mainly on primary health care and mental health, in Nabatiyeh and the Bekaa valley.

Type of contract: 60%, fixed term 12 months, renewable upon need

Scope of responsibility: MSF
To collaborate with MSF medical staff on the integration of psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services in order to insure the treatment of patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders.
Specific Accountabilities
- Conduct monthly field visits to MSF-supported clinics, PHCCs and MMU/MH MMU sites to provide clinical supervision and coaching to mhGAP-trained doctors, focusing on complex case reviews, diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning.
- Remain available remotely (on-call) to provide timely psychiatric input for acute or complex cases managed by mhGAP doctors across all supported sites.
- Contribute to continuous capacity building by supporting mhGAP and refresher training sessions, mentoring clinicians and providing constructive feedback to ensure consistent, context-adapted application of mhGAP and MSF mental health protocols.
- Attend monthly coordination meetings (onsite or remote) with the Mental Health Activity Manager (MHAM) and Medical Activity Manager (MAM) to align on supervision needs, address clinical challenges and plan strategic technical support.
- Provide technical guidance in line with MSF protocols, standards, and ethical principles, ensuring that all psychiatric interventions reflect MSF’s commitment to quality, neutrality, and patient-centered care.
- Support the MHAM and MAM in ensuring quality of case management across all levels of care through regular case discussions, supervision reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Advise mhGAP doctors and psychologists on therapeutic adjustments, particularly for patients with comorbid NCDs and mental disorders, promoting an integrated and holistic care approach.
- Participate in the referral process for complex or severe mental health cases by providing clinical input on referral necessity and ensuring that all referral decisions follow established protocols and appropriate care pathways.
- Actively contribute to the mission as an MSF representative, demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, and adherence to MSF’s principles and values in all internal and external interactions.
- Ensure that psychiatric documentation and supervision feedback are systematically recorded and shared with the MHAM, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with MSF’s data-protection standards.
Education
- Essential: MD degree, specialized training in psychiatry.
- Essential: License to practice as a Psychiatrist in Lebanon, issued by Ministry of Public Health
- Essential: Valid certificate of registration with the Lebanese Order of Physicians (LOP)
Experience
- Essential working experience as a psychiatrist.
- Experience in training and supervision.
Languages
- Essential: Full professional proficiency using the Arabicand English Language.
- Desirable: Elementary to limited professional proficiency using the French Language.
Knowledge
- Essential: Basic to Intermediate computer literacy using MS-office applications (MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-Excel).
