Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in 1971. Today, MSF provides independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, and exclusion from health care or natural disasters. MSF in Lebanon currently has 2 projects mainly on primary health care and mental health, in Wadi Khaled and the Bekaa valley.

Type of contract: 100%, fixed term 12 months, renewable upon need

Salary: 162,890,000 LBP per month (USD 1,820 per month)

Scope of responsibility: MSF

Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Provide psychological consultations to patients attending the PHCC, as part of the integrated medical and mental health approach.
  • Conduct mental health assessments, diagnosis, and evidence-based psychological interventions for mild to moderate mental health conditions, and contribute to the management and follow-up of severe cases in coordination with the mhGAP-trained doctor and referral actors, in line with MSF guidelines.
  • Work in close collaboration with mhGAP-trained doctors and nurses to ensure coordinated case management, including joint consultations, referrals and follow-up of shared cases.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary case discussions and supervision meetings with the Mental Health Activity Manager and supervisor-psychiatrist to ensure quality and consistency of care.
  • Deliver psychoeducation and focused psychosocial group sessions for patients and caregivers within the PHCC, promoting mental health awareness and self-management strategies.
  • Ensure systematic screening and early detection of psychological distress among patients attending the PHCC for NCD, SRH and general consultations, through collaboration with medical staff.
  • Identify and refer patients with severe mental health conditions or at risk (e.g., suicide, psychosis, SGBV survivors) to the appropriate level of care following MSF referral pathways.
  • Contribute to capacity-building activities for PHCC staff by providing on-the-job coaching on communication, basic counseling, Psychological First Aid (PFA), and confidentiality principles.
  • Support the integration of mental health services within the PHCC through coordination with local actors, adherence to MSF’s mental health protocols, and participation in regular data collection and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of clinical activities by maintaining patient files, completing standardized mental health forms, and regularly updating electronic and Excel-based monitoring tools as per the MH Activity Manager’s instructions.

Ensure respect for MSF’s principles, patient confidentiality, and culturally appropriate, non-stigmatizing mental health care delivery.

Requirements

Education

  • Essential: Master’s degree in psychology from a recognized university
  • Essential: Specialization in clinical psychology from a recognized university.
  • Essential: Ministry of public health practice license as Psychologist in Lebanon.
  • Essential: Valid certificate of registration at the Lebanese order of Psychologists.

Experience

  • Essential: At least 2 years of certified work experience in clinical psychology.
  • Desirable: Previous experience with MSF or other local and/or international NGOs.

Languages

  • Essential: Full professional proficiency using the Arabic and English Language.
  • Desirable: Elementary to limited professional proficiency using the French Language.

Knowledge

  • Essential: Basic to intermediate computer literacy using MS-office applications (MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-Excel).
