Public Space Painting Skills Training
Professional Empowerment Project – Nusaned & UN Women

1. Background

This activity is part of the broader vocational empowerment initiative implemented by Nusaned in partnership with UN Women, aiming to support economic inclusion and skill development for vulnerable populations.

The Public Space Painting Training Program targets adult women in the Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas. Painting was selected due to its strong labor market demand, relatively low entry barrier, and potential to create opportunities for both wage and self-employment in the construction and maintenance sectors.

2. Objectives

The primary objectives of the training are to:

  • Provide 16 participants with practical skills in basic and decorative painting.
  • Enhance understanding of surface preparation, types of paint and materials, tool use, and safety practices.
  • Improve participants' employability and ability to pursue independent work in painting and related fields.

3. Key Challenges and Considerations

  • Varied prior experience in manual or technical work among participants.
  • Limited familiarity with proper safety measures and material handling.

The training will address these challenges by incorporating foundational lessons, hands-on demonstrations, and consistent safety reinforcement.

4. Methodology

  • Participants: 16 individuals selected from target communities.
  • Training Duration: 30 days conducted over 4 to 5 days per week.
  • Training Content:
    • Surface preparation (cleaning, sanding, priming)
    • Wall and ceiling painting techniques
    • Color mixing and finishing
    • Use of brushes, rollers, and related tools
    • Occupational health and safety standards
  • Delivery: Practical, experiential sessions led by qualified trainer/s, ensuring a gender-sensitive and inclusive environment that supports participation of women, including those with disabilities.

5. Required Expertise

Trainers and supervisors must possess:

  • Proven experience in vocational painting or construction-related training.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills suited to adult learners.
  • Competency in hands-on teaching methods with an emphasis on participatory learning.
  • Familiarity with inclusive and safe learning environments.
  • Ability to coordinate with project staff and ensure quality reporting and documentation.

6. Monitoring and Reporting Requirements
