WFP Sudan Monthly Situation Report (January 2026)

  • In January, WFP delivered assistance to 3.5 million people, with total transfers amounting to 13,700 mt of food and USD 23 million cash-based transfers (CBT).
  • 1.4 million people received CBT, marking the highest CBT reach since the outbreak of conflict. The increase can be partly attributed to the transition of refugees from in-kind to CBT assistance in Kassala, Gedaref and White Nile states.
  • Despite humanitarian needs in Sudan remaining extremely high in 2026, severe resource constraints have forced WFP to undertake hyper-prioritization across its operations. WFP reduced its annual target from 11.5 million people in 2025 to 8.5 million in 2026, focusing limited resources on those in most need of assistance.
  • WFP urgently requires additional funding to sustain its lifesaving response in Sudan. Compared to the same period last year, WFP has reached 500,000 fewer people, underscoring the widening gap between urgent humanitarian needs and available funding.
