Internship Opportunity ‘’Political and Humanitarian Affairs’’

Purpose:

The internship aims to provide practical exposure to political and humanitarian analysis within the International Committee of the Red Cross, while supporting the delegation’s understanding of its operational environment. Under supervision of Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator, the intern will contribute to research, mapping, and analysis that inform operations, decision-making, and humanitarian action.

Minimum requirements:

Current students or fresh graduates from a degree program related to political science, public policy, international affairs or a similar field.

Main Functions:

  • Contribute to monitoring and synthesizing analyses related to political, security, socio-economic, and humanitarian developments relevant to the delegation’s area of responsibility.
  • Produce periodic reviews, stakeholder tracking, and event timelines.
  • Contribute to stakeholder analysis and engagement plans
  • Support the preparation of background notes, briefs, and talking points for meetings with key stakeholders
  • Contribute to thematic mappings and trend analysis
  • Prepare summaries of policy papers, resolutions, and governmental positions.
  • Support follow-up on dialogue with relevant stakeholders
  • Contribute to internal analytical reports, sitreps, and other documents.
  • Undertake focused research assignments on emerging issues.
  • Contribute to development of minutes of meetings when possible

Skills:

  • Strong interest in political and humanitarian dynamics.
  • Excellent analytical and research abilities.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise written products.
  • Strong drafting skills in English and Arabic; additional languages an asset.
  • Basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Discretion, sound judgment, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Capacity to work independently while remaining a strong team player.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn in a fast-paced operational

Languages:

  • Fluently spoken and written Arabic.
  • Fluently spoken and written English.
  • Fluently spoken and written French (an asset).

You will learn:

  • Practical application of political and humanitarian analysis in support of field operations.
  • How humanitarian diplomacy is prepared, documented, and followed up.
  • Methods for stakeholder mapping and context monitoring.
  • Exposure to internal decision-making and coordination mechanisms.
  • Exposure to working with authorities, diplomatic circles, donors, affected population …
  • Professional drafting of briefs, meeting notes, and analytical reports.
  • Understanding of how different departments integrate political and humanitarian considerations into their activities.
  • Experience working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.

DURATION: 

  • 6 months internship starting as of March 2026.
