TARABUT small grant - Local Initiatives

  1. Background and Context

The Safadi foundation (SF), in partnership with AIDA is implementing the European Union–funded project “TARABUT” in Fayhaa cities north Lebanon.

This project aims to actively engage community members, in cultural, social, environmental, sport, artistic, among other activities under “Together for a Better Fayhaa”, which is the project campaigns slogan.

This initiative seeks to empower residents to take direct action in rebuilding trust, fostering social cohesion, and enhancing the resilient fabric of Tripoli’s most marginalized neighborhoods.

  1. Objective

The primary objective of these sub-grants is to support grassroots, community-driven initiatives that promote social cohesion, inclusive participation, and the improvement of local living conditions in Tripoli.

  1. Grant Information
  • Total Lot Budget: 50,000 Euros.
  • Number of Awards: 10 grants.
  • Grant Amount: Up to 5,000 Euros per beneficiary.
  1. Scope of Work and Eligible Activities

Applicants are invited to propose projects that fall under one or more of the following categories:

  • Cultural Initiatives: Small-scale community art projects or cultural celebrations.
  • Environmental Actions: Community-led cleaning, greening, or landscaping projects.
  • Social Initiatives: Addressing local issues, such as gender equity awareness campaigns.
  • Sports & Recreation: Local sports events or workshops promoting physical activity for youth.
  • Educational & Artistic: Skills-building workshops that foster community interaction.
  • Economic Empowerment: Initiatives helping individuals or groups develop skills for economic growth.

 

  1. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for funding, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Legal Status: Open to recognized individuals or non-registered committees (with a focus on women and youth). Profit-making entities may apply but are strictly prohibited from generating profit from the grant activities.
  • Geographical Focus: Activities must be implemented within Tripoli’s marginalized areas. (Tripoli – Mina- Al Baddawi – Al Qalamoun)
  • Experience: Applicants must demonstrate prior experience in community-based projects.
  • Capacity Building: Preference will be given to those who have participated in relevant capacity-building sessions with “Tarabut”.

 

  1. Selection and Evaluation Criteria

The selection process will follow principles of transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity, in line with international best practices and EU standards. Applications will be assessed based on the following indicative criteria:

 

  1. Thematic Alignment: Proposed initiatives must align with the overarching goal of the Project and demonstrate a clear contribution to enhancing social cohesion within the community.
  2. Impact & Sustainability: Demonstrated benefit to the community and plans for the project's sustainability.
  3. Scalability: Potential for the initiative to be replicated in similar contexts.
  4. Gender Equity & Inclusion: Prioritization of gender equity and the involvement of marginalized groups.
  5. Financial Viability: A realistic, justified, and cost-effective budget.
  6. Monitoring & Evaluation: A clear plan for tracking progress and reporting results.
  7. Collaboration: Evidence of engagement with local stakeholders and community resources.
  8. Ethics: Commitment to ethical implementation.

Once selected, the partner will abide by SF Standards of Operations for procurement and financial reporting. Moreover, the Partner will follow SF code of conduct, PSEA and operating policies.

How to Apply
  1. Application Requirements

Interested parties must submit the following:

  1. Concept Note: Outlining the project goal, activities, and expected impact.
  2. Simplified Budget: Detailing how the grant will be spent. 
  3. Applicant Profile: Documentation of previous relevant experience and identity (ID for individuals or committee member list, Registration, Portfolio etc.).

  1. Submission Process

 

  • Applicants are required to fully complete and include all documents specified above. Incomplete applications will not be considered for review.
  • Interested applicants must submit all required documentation to admn@safadi-foundation.org no later than March 16th at 1:00 PM. Applications can only be accepted through the email address admn@safadi-foundation.org or delivered in a sealed envelope to Safadi Foundation, Old Saraya, Center. Please ensure that the title “TARABUT Small Grant – Local Initiatives” is clearly mentioned in the subject line of the email or written on the sealed envelope.
  • Attendance of the informative session on March 9th is mandatory for all applicants. Failure to attend may result in disqualification.
  • Following the information session, applicants may book 1-on-1 consultations with the SF “Tarabut” Team. Specific dates and booking instructions will be provided afterwards.

 

  • Every application will undergo a formal review by the team. Applicants can expect to receive feedback within two weeks of their submission date.
