English Teacher Retention Support - Ein El Remeneh

Project Background

The RISE project aims to directly support 90 of the most vulnerable children annually, from both host and refugee communities within a 5km radius of Amel's Ain el Remmaneh center. These children will be those facing significant challenges in school or at risk of dropping out.

Primary Purpose:

The Retention support educator is responsible for support and guidance to learners who are at risk of dropping out of school. The educator will work on improving the academic performance of these learners in a supportive active learning environment.

 

Task #1: Providing a quality education:

- Plans, prepares, and delivers comprehensive lesson plans and instructional materials to address the different learning abilities;

- Develops and prepares a variety of learning materials and resources (worksheets and activities);

- Implements and adapts various teaching methods and differentiated instructions to meet children's learning abilities and interests (ex: active learning, learning by doing / playing, etc.);

- Increases children’s autonomy in completing their homework/tasks and ensures they grasped the lessons’ objectives from the school;

- Participates actively in the development and creation of remedial/education materials by providing feedback, participating in focus group discussions, or any other request by the Learning Development Coordinator (LDC). 

- Encourages the children’s cooperation and self-learning (peer-to-peer, tutoring, etc.);

- Performs all the tasks assigned within the scope of his/her job.

Task #2: Monitoring & evaluation

- Design relevant tools to assess the children’s progress (Diagnostics tests, pre/post-tests, personal observation, etc.);

-  Conducts pre-and post-assessments to evaluate the children’s academic process and adapt the adopted teaching strategies;

- Monitors the attendance of the children daily;

- Reports to the social worker and the education assistant the results on time.

Task #3: Protection:

- Ensures the implementation of Amel’s Code of Conduct, Child protection policy, and Safeguarding policies and procedures;

- Establishes classroom rules and procedures to maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment;

- Oversees children during recess and activities;

- Adopts positive discipline practices (“child-friendly” class management);

- Supports the social worker/psychologist in engaging the community members in the children’s learning (communication skills);

- Supports the organization of any specific activities to respond to urgent needs;

- Designs and organizes occasional activities (such as community events, distribution, etc.) in coordination with other team members according to the community needs;

- Implements the protective measures for health protection continuously.

Task #4: Coordination:

-Coordinates daily with the project’s team members to adopt the collective response to the children's needs (coherent response with animator, social worker, psychologist, etc.);

- Attends and takes part in staff meetings;

- Share pictures of the activities on the common WhatsApp group and upload them on the drive based on Amel’s communication guidelines.

- Takes initiative to find collective solutions to challenges due to context/situation changes and adapts the project’s activities according to the retention support project goal (coordination meetings);

- Ensures smooth referrals with the field officer/ social worker/psychologist for individual cases (children, adults) with the internal referral pathways;

- Follow-ups on the education updates (national, and local updates with the public schools, MEHE, NGOs etc.) and relay information to relevant team members.

Task #5: Professional Development:

- Participates in internal and external professional activities (20 training hours yearly)

Working hours: 4 days/ week + additional hours (preparation, coordination meetings, events, distribution, etc.)

     

    Salary:

    • School Year (9 months): 4 sessions per week – $480
    • Summer (3 months): 3 sessions per week – $360

    Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in English from an accredited university.
    • A teaching diploma is a plus
    • 1-2 years of teaching experience
    • Languages: Fluent in Arabic and English
