MEAL Intern

Background

SHiFT Social Innovation Hub is implementing large-scale interventions in the education and protection sectors. To strengthen Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) systems and ensure high-quality data collection and verification, SHiFT is seeking two motivated MEAL Interns to support field-level and remote MEAL activities.

Objective of the Internship

The MEAL Intern will support the MEAL department in data collection, verification, accountability mechanisms, and post-distribution monitoring (PDM) activities. The intern will contribute to ensuring data accuracy, compliance with donor standards, and accountability to beneficiaries.

1. Data Collection Support

  • Conduct phone-based surveys (PDMs, satisfaction surveys, follow-ups).
  • Support field data collection activities when required.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) under supervision.
  • Accurately record beneficiary responses using Kobo or other approved data collection tools.

2. Data Validation and Quality Assurance

  • Support data cleaning and verification under supervision of the IMO and MEAL Coordinator.
  • Cross-check beneficiary lists and attendance sheets.
  • Identify inconsistencies or missing data and flag them for correction.
  • Assist in maintaining organized digital and physical MEAL documentation.

3. Accountability & Feedback Mechanisms

  • Support in receiving, documenting, and categorizing complaints and feedback.
  • Assist in follow-up calls regarding feedback cases when required.
  • Contribute to tracking and updating feedback databases.

4. Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM)

  • Conduct PDM phone calls to beneficiaries.
  • Compile raw PDM responses and submit them to the MEAL team.
  • Support in preliminary summarization of key findings.

5. Field & Operational Support

  • Participate in field visits when required.
  • Assist in preparing survey materials and FGD tools.
  • Support data entry and basic Excel updates.
  • Provide logistical support during assessments and evaluation activities.

6. Learning & Professional Development

  • Participate in MEAL team meetings.
  • Contribute to documenting lessons learned and field observations.
  • Gain exposure to donor compliance requirements.
  • Support preparation for evaluations and monitoring missions.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • University student or recent graduate in social sciences, statistics, development studies, or related field.
  • Strong communication skills in Arabic (mandatory).
  • Basic English reading and writing skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with KoboToolbox or similar data collection tools is an asset.
  • Comfortable conducting phone calls and interacting professionally with beneficiaries.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality, especially in protection contexts.
