Psychosocial Support Officer- BML (Rolling recruitment, subject to donor approval)

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Lead, organize and supervise the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities including awareness sessions, psychosocial group interventions, peer-support activities, and community events in Medair’s areas of operation.
  • Supervise and support MHPSS OVs in planning and conducting structured and unstructured PSS sessions, ensuring adherence to approved curricula, tools, and methodologies.
  • Provide continuous on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and technical follow-up to OVs, including debriefing and basic supervision after sessions.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor activity quality, participation, and adherence to safeguarding and protection standards.
  • Deliver technical capacity-building sessions for partner staff and community volunteers on MHPSS principles, Psychological First Aid (PFA), group facilitation, referral pathways and relevant MHPSS interventions.
  • Support partners in applying national MHPSS standards, tools, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Contribute to the development, piloting, and review of training materials, session guides, and reporting templates.
  • Assist in the formulation of Psychosocial Support (PSS) messages and approaches, in consultation with MHPSS project staff and the Community volunteers.
  • Ensure proper data collection and entry for all MHPSS activities, verifying accuracy and completeness in coordination with MEAL and IM teams.
  • Facilitate peer support group and psychosocial support sessions, when needed, under the technical oversight of the MHPSS Manager
  • Submitting timely weekly and monthly reports to the MHPSS Manager.
  • Ensure proper and timely referral of individuals requiring specialised mental health care through existing referral pathways, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in and contribute to technical coordination meetings and working groups at field level to strengthen harmonisation and cross-partner learning.
  • Build relationships and function as a link between Medair and communities, provide feedback on how to maintain and improve these links.
  •  Engage community leaders, community-based organizations, and other service providers in supporting beneficiaries to access PSS services.
  •  Assist in planning and implementation of assessments and surveys as required.
  •  Recommend any improvements or changes in the community-based PSS program to the MHPSS manager

Staff Management :

  • Supervise and support assigned assistant and outreach volunteers in their day-to-day activities.
  • Support recruitment, induction, and capacity-building of new OVs and casuals.
  • Identify training and development needs within the team/casual pool and develop plans to address them with the manager/sector lead.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning and continuous improvement, encouraging knowledge-sharing and collaboration among team members.
  • Set performance expectations and standards for line-managed team members.
  • Conduct regular (twice yearly) performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to help line-managed team members and/or casuals improve their performance and achieve their potential.
  • Keep Medair People updated with accurate personal and work-related data, including annual leave and sick days.
  • Promote staff and volunteer well-being through supportive supervision, respectful communication, and adherence to Medair’s values.

Quality Management/Work :

  • Support in upholding quality assurance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure that project activities and deliverables meet established quality benchmarks and organizational objectives.
  • Support in the collection, analysis, and documentation of data and information from project activities and stakeholders to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
  • With Manager, implement action plans and address identified gaps, challenges, and bottlenecks in project implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements in all aspects of project implementation, including financial management, procurement, and reporting.
  • Conduct quality assurance visits and session observations, providing constructive feedback to OVs and partner teams.

Communication and Coordination : 

  • Facilitate clear and effective communication across teams and departments within the organization.
  • Attend relevant internal meetings, workshops, and training sessions, ensuring participation and engagement from relevant stakeholders, as requested by LM and/or Sector Lead.
  • Assist in managing external communications with local stakeholders.
  • Support the development of communication materials such as reports, newsletters, and presentations for external audiences.
  • Liaise regularly with partner NGOs, CBOs, and local authorities to align activity plans and ensure harmonised implementation.
  • Facilitate information flow between Medair, partners, and community structures, ensuring that updates, challenges, and success stories are documented and shared.
  • Communicate regularly with OVs and partners to ensure consistent understanding of standards, tools, and approaches.

Risk Management (in line with roles and responsibilities per position)

  • Compliant with internal and external controls and procedures.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to build capacity in risk management principles, tools, and techniques.
  • Understand and alert Line Manager of risks and potential risks and/or policy breaches in timely and appropriate manner.
  • Ensure that community feedback and complaints are promptly documented and followed up according to Medair’s AAP framework.

Proposals and Reporting:

  • Submit timely weekly and monthly reports to the Line Manager and to other reporting systems.
  • Provide accurate regular reports, statistics, and documented results and maintain detailed records of the overall activities.
  • Review facility and community level data from the field.
  • Contribute to Medair’s monitoring and evaluation activities.Support data collection and analysis to feed into activity reports, monitoring frameworks, and donor submissions.
  • Compile and submit weekly and monthly reports detailing activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.

Security, Safeguarding, and Preventing Fraud and Corruption:

  • Understand that safety and security at Medair is everyone's responsibility.
  • Understand and comply with all policies and security procedures.
  • Report any suspected breaches of Medair’s Code of Conduct in a timely manner
  • Support the implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures to prevent and respond to incidents of harassment, abuse, and exploitation.
  • Ensure the systematic prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment as well as fraud and corruption through people and process management activities.
