- Type of contract: Intervention Fixed-term contract, upon needs
- Place of work: Mghairiyeh, Chouf. With possible relocation to Nabatiyeh, Lebanon (when situation allows)
- Salary: LBP 110,085,000 per month (updated competitive salary package with benefits including allowances, medical coverage, and 5 weeks of paid leave per year)
Scope of Responsability:
Provide verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (medical round, consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from English to Arabic or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and local population.
Accountabilities:
- Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people.
- Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter.
- Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
- Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
- Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).
- Keep record of all translated documents.
- Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF.
- Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.
Specific Activities:
- Accompany the Project Medical Referent (PMR) and other medical International Mobile Staff (IMS) during meetings with local stakeholders when required, ensuring clear and accurate communication.
- Maintain strict neutrality at all times, refraining from expressing personal opinions or influencing discussions.
- Ensure full confidentiality of all meetings attended, including their content, participants, and outcomes, in line with MSF policies and ethical standards.
Requirements:
Education
- Essential: Secondary Education
- Desirable: University degree in Translation, Interpretation, Linguistics, Languages, or any relevant related fields. Degree or knowledge in Healthcare, Nursing, Public Health is an asset.
Experience
Desirable:
- Professionnal experience in interpretation (community, legal, or medical settings)
- Experience in medical or healthcare interpretation, previous collaboration with NGOs, hospitals, humanitarian actors
Languages
- Essential: Full professional proficiency (reading, writing, and speaking) in English and Arabic.
- Desirable: French proficiency and other languages are an asset.
Knowledge
- Essential: Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of MS-Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Desirable: Strong understanding of medical terminology, knowledge of interpretation ethics and confidentiality standards, familiarity with healthcare systems in Lebanon.
