Local Project Officer for the Middle East_2026

Deutsche Welle Akademie (DWA) is seeking to engage a Project Officer for the Middle East Team to assist with the implementation of projects in the region.
The primary focus is on the project ‘Shaping the future: Media and AI literacy at Damascus University’. The aim of the project is to work with the Faculty of Media at Damascus University to provide future journalists with up-to-date media and AI skills.

Scope of work
This position will report directly to the DWA Head Office in Germany.
The responsibilities include:
• Managing and coordination of all activities related to the projects;
• Coordination and collaboration with local, regional and international MIL experts, their mission and assignments, as well as approval of reports and invoices;
• Managing networks and fostering exchange with relevant stakeholders and projects;
• Introducing the project to key stakeholders, including ministries, local authorities, and existing local and regional networks
• Collecting financial reports and supporting documentation;
• Preparing status reports for submission to the DWA Office;
• Gathering data for monitoring and evaluation purposes;
• Ensuring project visibility and sharing of success stories.

Requirements
• Minimum of three years’ experience in working of international donor funded projects;
• Proven experience in grant projects for local civil society organizations;
• Experience working with civil society organisations and/or media rep resentatives in the MENA region in political sensitive contexts;
• Presentation skills and ability to interact with different stakeholders, associated project partners, CSOs, and media;
• Arabic speaking and writing skills (native) as well as English (fluent in speaking and writing);
• Ability to interact in an intercultural team;
• Willingness to travel within Lebanon and the region;
• Experience in working for an international organization, such as DW Akademie, would be an asset.

Place of Assignment
Home-based with office presence in Lebanon, travel to Syria and the region.

Renumeration and payment
