Food Safety Quality Expert

The FSQ Expert will oversee food safety and quality assurance processes related to meal preparation, packaging, transportation, and distribution across partner kitchens and shelters. The role includes conducting assessments and inspections, monitoring operational compliance, developing SOPs and quality control tools, and supporting capacity building for kitchen staff to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of nutritious meals.

The service includes:

  • Conducting assessments of contracted kitchens to ensure compliance with FSQ standards and required certifications.
  • Monitoring food preparation, packaging, handling, storage, transportation, and distribution processes.
  • Developing and implementing food quality control tools, monitoring checklists, and SOPs.
  • Conducting regular field visits and inspections to monitor compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ensuring proper implementation of food safety measures during meal preparation and distribution.
  • Supporting training and capacity building of kitchen staff and field teams.
  • Coordinating with local authorities, health actors, and humanitarian partners regarding food safety standards and compliance.
  • Supporting contingency planning and rapid operational adjustments during emergencies.

Key Deliverables

  • Kitchen assessment and inspection reports.
  • Food safety and quality assurance checklists and monitoring tools.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Regular monitoring and inspection reports for partner kitchens and shelters.
  • Documentation of field visits and compliance findings.
  • Capacity building and training support for kitchen staff and operational teams.
  • Recommendations and corrective action plans to address identified food safety or quality concerns.
  • Final summary report including key findings, lessons learned, and recommendations.

Timeframe and Reporting

The assignment duration is three months.

The FSQ Expert will report directly to the Area Manager and coordinate closely with the project manager, field teams, partner kitchens, humanitarian actors, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders. Regular updates and reports will be submitted throughout the assignment period.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Public Health, Food Safety, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience in food safety, quality assurance, food production, or humanitarian food assistance programs.
  • Previous experience working on WFP-funded projects or humanitarian emergency response programs is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards, HACCP principles, quality assurance systems, and public health regulations.
  • Experience in assessing and monitoring commercial or community kitchens, including meal preparation, packaging, storage, and transportation processes.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian principles, food assistance standards, and accountability requirements in emergency settings.
  • Proven ability to develop SOPs, monitoring tools, checklists, and food quality control procedures.
  • Experience conducting training and capacity-building sessions for kitchen staff, volunteers, or field teams.
  • Strong coordination, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Fluency in Arabic and good command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work under pressure, conduct frequent field visits, and respond effectively in fast-paced emergency environments.
