Lebanon Situation Report - Update #08 (24 April – 6 May 2026)

CONTEXT

Humanitarian needs continue to soar across Lebanon, as the ceasefire remains fragile and under strain. Vulnerable families, often displaced with limited or no safe options, face heightened uncertainty and insecurity, while urgently requiring life-saving assistance amid increasingly constrained access to basic services. As the crisis deepens, sustained support remains essential to maintain ongoing life-saving interventions and prevent further deterioration of living conditions for affected populations. Following the announcement of the ceasefire on 16 April, population movements across Lebanon remain highly fluid. Although some return movements have been observed, ongoing insecurity, including the re-issuance of displacement orders in multiple locations, such as in South Lebanon, has triggered repeated displacement. In this context, the pace of returns continues to fluctuate, recently slowing down. Limited information on conditions in areas of return, extensive destruction of critical infrastructure, and persistent safety concerns continue to hinder safe and sustainable returns. At the same time, many internally displaced persons (IDPs) remain outside formal collective sites, relying on precarious shelter arrangements while those within formal sites face overcrowded conditions and heightened protection risks. As the situation remains volatile, access to basic services continues to deteriorate, further eroding coping capacities and increasing pressure on host communities. The health sector has been particularly affected. With a rise in conflict-related injuries and fatalities, access to functioning health facilities is becoming increasingly constrained. According to the Ministry of Public Health, over 40 primary healthcare centres are currently closed, while 16 hospitals have sustained damage. Combined with critical shortages of medicines and medical supplies, these conditions are raising significant public health concerns.
