KEY FINDINGS
• The national Minimum Expenditure Basket (MEB) without top-up increased by 5% compared to February 2026, reaching 540,675 SDG. The highest observed values were recorded in South Kordofan (607,709 SDG), Northern (578,840 SDG), and Gedaref (566,241 SDG). EGYPT Northern Ma'tan al-Sana
• At the district level, the highest MEB values were observed in Abassiya, South Kordofan (700,314 SDG), At Reifi Gharb Kassala, Kassala (632,221 SDG), and Al Kurmuk, Blue Nile (632,021 SDG). • The median cost of food items in the national MEB indicated an increase of 10% between February 2026 (234,053 SDG) and April 2026 (257,521 SDG), driven by a price increases of some of the food items, notably, cow meat (+60%), goat meat (+40%), tomatoes (+25%), vegetable oil (+6%), milk (+4%), and sorghum (+2%). The most expensive food components in the MEB were recorded in Abassiya, South Kordofan (362,467 SDG), Sheikan, North Kordofan (353,381 SDG), and Reifi Gharb Kassala, Kassala (310,770 SDG).
• The national MEB household items without top-up increased by 1% since February 2026 (124,317 SDG), driven by gas refill (+19%). The highest-cost household items without top-up in the MEB were observed in Delami, South Kordofan (216,500 SDG), Al Lait, North Darfur (195,500 SDG), and Merwoe, Northern (153,667 SDG).
• The median cost of hygiene items in the national MEB recorded an increase of 2% since February 2026, reaching 42,146 SDG, driven by price increases in key components, notably laundry soap (+24%) and sanitary pads (+17%). The highest hygiene item costs were recorded in South Kordofan, particularly in Abassiya (68,700 SDG), Abu Jubayhah (65,881 SDG), and Ar Rashad (64,867 SDG).
• Overall, markets were found to be functional, with 4 markets (out of 59) recording scores of less than 50 out of 100, notably in Kereneik, West Darfur (35), Dilling, South Kordofan (45), As Sunut, West Kordofan (47), and Nyala Shimal, South Darfur (49). Additionally, almost two thirds of the markets (63%) scored below average in the affordability and resilience pillars.
