Country Director – Lebanon

About the Opportunity

Relief International has been operational in Lebanon since 2006 and is adapting its mission to respond to the country’s evolving context and program opportunities. The Country Director will lead the Lebanon mission, working closely with the Desk Director, the Lebanon Senior Management Team, country teams, partners, donors, government authorities, and Relief International’s Global Support Team.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for strategic direction, program quality, resource mobilization, external representation, risk and security management, and the overall health and sustainability of the Lebanon mission.

Your Responsibilities

This role includes the following responsibilities.

  • Lead and execute the strategic vision for the Lebanon mission, building on RI’s long-standing presence and adapting programming to the changing context.
  • Drive resource mobilization and relationship building with donors, partners, government authorities, interagency coordination groups, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee quality program delivery, operational performance, budget management, compliance, financial transparency, and timely implementation of a portfolio of approximately USD 5 million.
  • Lead risk, access, safety and security management, ensuring duty of care and strong security culture across the country office.
  • Provide leadership to the Lebanon Senior Management Team and program teams, fostering accountability, transparency, equity, high performance, and a healthy working environment.
  • Model RI’s values and Code of Conduct, ensuring safeguarding, ethical conduct, reporting mechanisms, and a well-functioning country-level Incident Management Team.
  • Travel within Lebanon and to Europe as requested will be required.

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • Proven country leadership experience in small to medium-scale multi-sector programming in complex and changing settings.
  • Degree in a relevant field or commensurate work experience.
  • Strong strategic planning, project management, communication, public speaking, writing, negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience overseeing program implementation and compliance for institutional donor grants, including USAID, ECHO and UN grants.
  • Experience in fundraising and building relationships with institutional and private donors.
  • A coaching and mentoring leadership style, with experience managing team structure, performance, communication and conflict.
  • Fluency in English is essential. Previous experience in Lebanon, Arabic language skills, advocacy and media engagement experience, and sector experience in Health, Protection, WASH, Livelihoods, early recovery and/or development are desirable.
