Purpose of the Position
The Inclusion Officer will be responsible for the overall implementation of the inclusion component for the Project. This includes directly supervising and ensuring children with disabilities are identified, assessed, provided with necessary services and devices, and properly followed up, in coordination with educators, project’s staff, and caregivers.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibility #1: Program Implementation, Capacity Building & Support
- Supervise the work of special educators.
- Design, develop, and facilitate capacity-building training sessions for the special educators on inclusive education.
- Provide ongoing mentoring and technical support to the special educators on inclusive education strategies, identification of learners’ needs, and implementation of inclusive teaching practices.
- Conduct frequent field visits to centers and shelters to assess needs, monitor inclusion activities, and provide on-the-ground support.
- Conduct screening assessments to identify learners requiring additional educational support and refer them for specialized assessment when needed.
- Based on assessment findings, coordinate the identification, procurement, and provision of required assistive devices and learning supports (hearing aids, glasses, mobility aids…) in collaboration with relevant teams and service providers.
- Conduct and facilitate parental engagement and awareness sessions for caregivers of children with disabilities.
- In coordination with the field coordinator, monitor attendance and drop-out rates for CwD, conducting follow-up via awareness sessions and phone calls to ensure retention.
- Review and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) developed by special educators, ensuring they are child-centered, aligned with identified needs, include measurable goals, and are regularly updated based on learners' progress.
Responsibility #2: Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
- Monitor the progress of learners with learners requiring additional educational supports, maintaining records and discussing development with teachers and parents.
- Collect data for reports using dedicated monitoring tools (e.g., Focus Group Discussions, Satisfaction Surveys).
- Ensure accurate reporting on disability-related data including assessments, referrals, and provision of assistive devices.
- Be responsible for regular reporting on the inclusion component to the Project Coordinator.
The Inclusion Officer may be required to support additional tasks and carry other responsibilities not mentioned above, depending on the evolving needs of the project.
Qualifications and Requirements
- University degree in education, special education, psychology, social pedagogy, or a related field.
- Three to five years of professional experience in special education or inclusive education.
- Strong familiarity with the concept of inclusive education is an asset.
- Experience in teacher training is an asset.
- Strong training, facilitation, and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in Arabic and English.
