Executive Director

Threads of Peace is seeking an experienced Executive Director to provide strategic leadership, institutional oversight, donor engagement, and organizational development. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to strengthen governance, ensure accountability, support fundraising efforts, and guide the organization’s strategic growth.

The Executive Director will serve as the organization’s senior leader and primary representative, working closely with the Board of Directors to advance Threads of Peace’s mission, strengthen institutional sustainability, support resource mobilization efforts, and ensure effective governance, operational excellence, and program quality.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Set organizational direction by leading strategic planning and organizational priorities with the Board and ensuring alignment between funding decisions and mission delivery.

• Serve as the primary external representative by managing donor relationships, partnerships, and high-level advocacy while protecting the organization’s reputation and positioning.

• Support organizational visibility, strategic communications, and external messaging to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission, values, donor commitments, and institutional positioning.

• Ensure appropriate institutional approval and authorization processes are implemented in line with organizational policies and governance standards.

• Ensure governance reporting by providing the Board with clear, accurate, and up-to-date organizational, programmatic, and financial information at agreed intervals.

• Approve annual organizational budgets and significant revisions and ensure financial sustainability decisions are properly documented and communicated to the Board.

• Lead fundraising, donor engagement, partnership development, and resource mobilization efforts to secure funding, strengthen organizational sustainability, and support strategic growth.

• Support organizational compliance, accountability, and institutional improvement initiatives.

• Promote transparency, ethical conduct, and accountability across organizational operations and partnerships.

• Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the senior management team, fostering collaboration, accountability, staff well-being, and a positive organizational culture aligned with Threads of Peace values.

• Supervise operational management functions and support coordination across departments to ensure effective program delivery, institutional effectiveness, and alignment with organizational priorities.

• Ensure the quality, relevance, and impact of organizational programs through effective planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and adaptive management processes.

• Strengthen and maintain strategic partnerships with civil society organizations, community groups, public institutions, donors, and other stakeholders to advance the organization’s mission, visibility, and sustainability.

• Represent Threads of Peace in relevant networks, coordination platforms, forums, and strategic discussions at local, national, and international levels.

• Ensure effective safeguarding, risk management, security, and business continuity measures are in place and implemented in accordance with organizational policies, duty of care responsibilities, and best practices.

• Promote staff well-being, learning, professional development, and a healthy working environment that supports participation, diversity, inclusion, and continuous growth.

• Ensure procurement processes are aligned with organizational procedures, internal controls, and donor requirements.

• Approve senior staffing actions, including appointments, terminations, and compensation exceptions, in accordance with approved HR policies and Board-approved salary structures.

Qualifications:

Education
• Master’s degree in International Affairs, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.

Experience
• Minimum 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience in the non-profit, development, humanitarian, or civil society sector.
• Demonstrated experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning, institutional development, and team management.
• Experience in peacebuilding, conflict sensitivity, social cohesion, humanitarian action, or related fields is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience in donor engagement, fundraising, partnership development, and resource mobilization.
• Experience overseeing donor-funded projects and ensuring compliance with donor, contractual, and organizational requirements is highly desirable.

• Strong understanding of the socio-political context in Lebanon and the wider Middle East region.
• Strong strategic leadership, organizational development, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, representation, and relationship management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with donors, civil society organizations, public institutions, and community stakeholders.
• Strong financial oversight, planning, and resource management skills.
• Ability to lead and support multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative and participatory manner.

Languages
• Fluency in Arabic and English.
• French is an asset.
