On November 5, 2024, the IFRC launched an Emergency Appeal to support the Lebanese Red Cross in responding to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, aiming to assist 700,000 affected individuals.
Due to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan with more than 124 million forcibly displaced, out of which 3.4 million fled into neighbouring countries, the Federation-wide Emergency Appeal was revised, increasing the total funding ask from the initial CHF 42 million to CHF 47.5 million and extending the operation end date to December 2025.
Lebanon has witnessed a new wave of displacement from Syria due to intensied hostilities in the coastal regions, particularly affecting Tartous, Lattakia, Homs, and Hama Governorates. Recent displacement has led to the arrival of 10,500 new individuals in Akkar and the North Governorate, with the majority (8,828 people) settling in Akkar.
Since October 2023, IFRC has been supporting LRC’s efforts to prepare for and respond to the spill-over effects of the escalation of hostilities in Gaza through its multi-country Emergency Appeal for the Middle East Complex Emergency, which addresses the regional implications of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The ceasefire agreement for Gaza will provide some desperately needed respite for the millions of people who have been suffering during the relentless conflict of the last 15 months, including the hostages and their families who have been anxiously waiting to have them back home.
With barely any aid coming in, people in Gaza have been experiencing the full force of winter as heavy rain and floods exacerbate an already dire humanitarian situation, leaving many lives at risk.
On 18 October 2023, IFRC launched the Middle East Crisis Emergency Appeal to support the coordination and scale-up of response to the crisis, in addition to the readiness activities in neighbouring countries.
