This training explores social work practice in light of these contextual and relational dynamics, taking a step back to redirect our actions where necessary and to the extent possible. By exploring various tools and sharing experiences, it aims at better understanding power dynamics that emerge and form in the field and at exploring new approaches for interventions. The objective is to enable the implementation of fair and equitable projects for all.

During this event, we will launch the third issue of the Civil Society Review*, our peer-reviewed journal, as well as introduce its editorial board. This issue offers insights into the transformation of the “associative sector” in Lebanon and Palestine, a sector generally seen to be at the core of an increasingly active civil society.

During the event, Lebanon Support and forumZFD will present this mapping, as well as the infographic and key findings of the report developed based on the database. The presentation will be followed by a panel intervention of a range of actors from civil society, education, and policy making who will share their insights and experiences on initiatives addressing the past in Lebanon. This session will introduce the open source, free platform KoboToolbox (www.kobotoolbox.org) which can be used for online and offline data collection. Kobo ToolBox is built on ODK (Open Data Kit), a suite of tools that allows data collection using mobile devices and data submission to an online server, even without an Internet connection or mobile carrier service at the time of data collection.

The consociational system as well as kinship-based politics have not allowed circulation of political elites, limiting the entry and participation of newcomers and women to the political scene in Lebanon. The 2018 Lebanese parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on 6 May after nearly a decade since the last time they were held.
