Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Atlantic, hit southwestern Jamaica on 28 October as a Category 5 system—the worst hurricane to hit the area since 1988—before crossing into eastern Cuba as a Category 3 the following day.
During the night of 16–17 September 2025, heavy rains fell across most communes of the Nord-Ouest department, causing the Trois-Rivières River in Port-de-Paix to overflow suddenly. The floods resulted in extensive inundations across several neighborhoods in Port-de-Paix and Bassin-Bleu.
After more than ten years of conflict, Yemen is again on the brink of humanitarian disaster, standing as the world’s third most food insecure context. As of September this year, 18.1 million people are estimated to face acute hunger (IPC Phase 3 and above).

In April 2025, Shelter Cluster hubs across Yemen navigated complex challenges, including escalating displacement, recurrent evictions, and climate-related risks. Key achievements included infrastructure improvements, distributions of emergency shelter and non-food items (NFIs), and progress on transitional shelter projects.
IOM Yemen DTM's Rapid Displacement Tracking (RDT) tool collects data on estimated numbers of households forced to flee on a daily basis from their locations of origin or displacement, allowing for regular reporting of new displacements in terms of estimated numbers, geography, and needs.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has provided shelter assistance to nearly 3,400 displaced families and distributed essential household items to 14,000 families across Yemen in 2024, thanks to the generous $7 million USD contribution from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief).
