Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Atlantic, hit southwestern Jamaica on 28 October as a Category 5 system—the worst hurricane to hit the area since 1988—before crossing into eastern Cuba as a Category 3 the following day.

As the extent of the damage becomes clearer, the impact continues to grow in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Granma — the two most severely hit by Hurricane Melissa. More than 54,000 people remain evacuated, 7,500 of them in state centers.

• One week after Hurricane Melissa passed through, more than 50 communities in the eastern region remain cut off due to flooding and infrastructure damage, according to Civil Defense reports.

The earthquakes affected most parts of Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and the Caraga Region, displacing thousands of families and damaging critical infrastructure, including homes, schools, hospitals, and government facilities.

Over 6.9 million people have been affected since late June by heavy monsoon rains; with 3.5 million people becoming displaced.

During the night of 16–17 September 2025, heavy rains fell across most communes of the Nord-Ouest department, causing the Trois-Rivières River in Port-de-Paix to overflow suddenly. The floods resulted in extensive inundations across several neighborhoods in Port-de-Paix and Bassin-Bleu.

Nationally, over 6.9 million (over 4.7 million in Punjab, 171,000 people in Sindh, 1.6 million in KP and 356,000 in GB provinces) people were affected by floods since 26 June.

On 20 August 2025, the Bolivian government declared a national emergency through Supreme Decree No. 5447 in response to the escalating wildfire crisis. Santa Cruz and Beni have been identied as the most affected departments.

40,000 people are in urgent need of assistance in Muzaffargarh District of Punjab Province, where many people remain on rooftops and trees awaiting rescue. District authorities have called for tents, food, hygiene kits, and medical support.

Pakistan's particularly strong monsoon season rains which began on 26 June, continue to wreak havoc across large swathes of the country, with Punjab province bearing the brunt of overflowing rivers and subsequent flooding.

As of 1 September, 216 people have been killed and 625 injured in Punjab since the onset of the monsoon on 26 June, with women and children accounting for nearly half of all casualties.

Meseret, Ethiopian migrant domestic worker in Lebanon

Thursday 8th October, Beirut International human rights NGO Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) has launched a ground-breaking slavery case in Lebanon. LAW represents Meseret, a 38-year-old migrant domestic worker who was kept as a slave in a Beirut apartment for seven years until 2019. She was locked inside the home without payment and subject to serious abuse and neglect. “Whenever I asked about my salary, my employer beat me,” Meseret says, now from her home in Ethiopia.
