About ABAAD

 

ABAAD– Resource Center for Gender Equality is a UN ECOSOC accredited organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region.

ABAAD advocates for the development and implementation of policies and laws that enhance women’s effective participation, through a rights-based approach that would bring about tangible change to gender justice.

With the purpose of ending gender-based violence, ABAAD adopts a holistic care approach to provide protection and support services to GBV survivors/right holders during times of peace, war and disasters since 2011.

 

 

About the project

 

Generation Gender is a five-year program that aims at positively influencing public opinion, laws and policies towards gender justice, as well as strengthening civil society to advocate for gender justice all the while combatting GBV and inequality. More specifically, the program at hand relies on an innovative and inclusive gender-transformative strategy that equips youth leaders and civil society organizations (CSOs) to address the root causes of gender inequality and foster sustainable change. Its goal is to raise public support, advocate for improved policies and laws, and strengthen civil society.

 

Overall goal of this assignment

 

The consultant will be required to deliver a training on critical and creative thinking and problem solving to a group of young men and women from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The capacitation will equip the youth with the necessary tools to be able to identify problems with their local communities and collaboratively reflect on efficient and creative solutions. By teaching them how to operate as a unit, the youth will be deterred from resorting to black and white thinking and explore middle ground.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a training curriculum on critical thinking and problem solving in collaboration with ABAAD;
  • Ensure the learning materials are rooted in practicality founded on participatory active learning, discussions, case studies, demonstration sessions and group activities;
  • Carry out 2 training sessions that will result in the following learning outcomes:
  • Participants will be able to determine whether or not an argument is deductively valid;
  • Youth will be able to recognize logical fallacies and rely on concrete data and scientific information;
  • Youth are able to identify misinformation and its impact on their personal judgment;
  • Participants are able identify common needs, shared interests and accordingly find a common goal;
  • Youth become better equipped to analyze and assess a problem and identify its root causes;
  • Youth are able to understand, deconstruct and appreciate arguments that others present even if they do not align with their own;
  • Youth are able to explore the concept of creative thinking in its different aspects;
  • Participants are able to utilize critical and creative thinking to solve issues;
  • Youth are able to recognize and seize opportunities and conversely identify and tackles problems;
  • Youth are equipped with the necessary tools to explore possible solutions and employ the problem solving process.
  • Submit a final report detailing achievements, challenges, lessons learnt and main takeaways along with any notable success stories;

 

 

 

Skills required

  • Applicant is required to have a BA or MA in social sciences, psychology or other related field;
  • Applicant must have extensive experience in the field of critical and creative thinking as well as creative and strategic problem solving;
  • Applicant must have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the local context in Lebanon;
  • Applicant must possess excellent communication skills in Arabic;
  • Applicant must have experience working in culturally sensitive contexts.
