Position: Handicrafts and Artisanal Products Trainer

Requirement: Proven experience in crafting, design, and production of artisanal products

Project: MAKANI AID 012590/03/8

Time Frame for this assignment:  starting in April 2025

Duration: 15 days per training

Location: Jbeil, Suq al Ghareb (Mount Lebanon)

Type of consultancy: service agreement

 

 

 

ABOUT ABAAD

ABAAD– Resource Center for Gender Equality is a UN ECOSOC accredited organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD advocates for the development and implementation of policies and laws that enhance women’s effective participation, through a rights-based approach that would bring about tangible change to gender justice. With the purpose of ending gender-based violence, ABAAD adopts a holistic care approach to provide protection and support services to GBV survivors/right holders during times of peace, war and disasters since 2011.

OVERALL GOAL OF THIS ASSIGNMENT

The project entitled “Makani: Education, Protection, Empowerment, and Community inclusion in Lebanon” aims to enhance educational services, empower caregivers, and support economically vulnerable mothers. The project is targeting mothers of economically vulnerable families with children excluded or at risk of exclusion from school build pathways to economic empowerment and social inclusion and improve their opportunities to access income by focusing on achieving four main results: Livelihood promotion, social protection, social empowerment, and financial inclusion. Diverse livelihood options and sources of income will be provided through vocational trainings. This training focuses on equipping participants with skills in creating handicrafts and artisanal products to enhance their income-generating opportunities. The training will be consisting of 15 days, for a group of 10 to 20 women.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Handicrafts and Artisanal Products Trainer will:

  1. Curriculum Development
    • Design a tailored training curriculum for creating high-quality handicrafts and artisanal products.
    • Include techniques for using sustainable and locally available materials.
    • Develop modules on quality control and product finishing.
  2. Training Delivery
    • Conduct hands-on workshops teaching participants how to:
      • Create various handicrafts such as jewelry, textiles, and decorative items.
      • Use tools and materials effectively for crafting.
      • Innovate and personalize designs to meet market demands.
    • Provide step-by-step guidance for producing artisanal products with professional-level quality.
  3. Skill Enhancement and Quality Assurance
    • Train participants on combining traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques.
    • Introduce methods for scaling production for larger markets.
    • Teach participants how to ensure the durability and aesthetic appeal of their products.
    • Provide tips on packaging and presentation to enhance marketability.
  4. Evaluation of skills acquired
    • Develop a pre- and post-to evaluate the skills acquired by the participants, and prepare a report reporting the findings

Logistical Arrangements: If applying as an organization, you will be responsible for booking the venue and providing any necessary materials. This must be reflected in your portfolio and proposal.

Skills Required

  • Proven expertise in crafting and artisanal product design.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops for vulnerable or marginalized groups, experience with women is an assets
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage participants effectively.
  • Ability to design and deliver structured training tailored to participants' needs.
  • Knowledge of sustainable practices and market trends in handicrafts.

SELECTION AND EVALUATION PROCESS:              

 

Evaluation:

Interested candidates should send an Expression of Interest to careers@abaadmena.org by March 11, 2025 mentioning the training title in the email subject line, including:

  • CV/portfolio, demonstrating previous experience in the same requested field;
  • List of consultancies and similar trainings conducted in the previous years.

 

Based on the EoI received, pre-selected candidates will be invited for the second phase of evaluation through a tender in which bidders will be asked to submit a detailed technical and financial offer. The technical and financial. The technical evaluation will assess the relevance and adequacy of the proposed approach and the expertise of the consultant, ensuring alignment with the assignment’s objectives and requirements. The financial evaluation will review the cost-effectiveness and overall budget feasibility. Both sections must be satisfactorily addressed for a bid to be considered for award.
