About the project
Non-Lebanese GBV survivors face greater difficulties than Lebanese women. Obstacles to overcoming the cycle of violence include not knowing the Lebanese legal frameworks, cultural context, and geography. Although several efforts have been put in place to respond, evidence from the field continue to highlight large service delivery gaps. Still, although supply may be improved, there is also a negative demand side related to lack of information and social norms. The latter include, as in most societies, a tendency to blame the GBV survivor.
The prevalence of these forms of GBV is combined with the following needs and gaps:
- Lack of awareness of the impact of GBV on the community, especially on women and girls.
- Lack of mobilization of male youth and youth groups to address GBV issues.
- Lack of awareness and community engagement amongst the affected communities on the necessity of interventions and the advantages of support for GBV survivors.
This project will aim at reducing GBV against women and girls (from both Syrian and host communities) in the most underprivileged areas in Lebanon through enhancing protection and prevention mechanisms while ensuring quality access of women and youth to psycho-social and life skills services.
