Overview:
ABAAD is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious civil society organization that seeks to achieve gender equality as a fundamental condition for sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD promotes women's rights and participation through policy development, legal reform, gender mainstreaming, engaging men and boys, eliminating discrimination, and empowering women to fully and effectively participate in their communities. ABAAD also works to support and collaborate with civil society organizations involved in gender equality programming and advocacy initiatives.

ABAAD maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA). Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is a collective responsibility. All staff are required to adhere to the organization's Code of Conduct, which upholds the principles of PSEA at all times, both during and outside of working hours. Familiarization with, and strict adherence to, the Code of Conduct is mandatory, alongside the completion of related training. All staff must ensure they understand, internalize, and act in full accordance with this commitment.

Given that ABAAD is implementing programs across different regions in Lebanon, we are currently recruiting specialized professionals to deliver a range of social work, prevention, response, and community-based activities within these projects.

Position TITLE: Emergency Safe Housing SW

LOCATION: Beqaa

REPORTING LINES: Post holder reports to: MWH Director

 

 

Background:

In Lebanon, Safe sheltering services, that can, by providing the abused Lebanese women with refuge, services and support, help her in escape the violence and overcoming, are limited, especially in Beqaa, North & the South.

Given the limited  secular  sheltering  services  in  Lebanon,  non-Lebanese  GBVvictims are even facing greater difficulties. Refugee women, who sometimes ignore totally the Lebanese legal frameworks, cultural context, and geography, face extreme difficulties in their mission to overcome the cycle of violence. In addition to the fact that empowering refugee women survivors of GBV require: responding to their multiplicity of needs; Helping them in accessing information; Meeting their material needs; Providing them with psycho- social support and breaking their social isolation.

 

Thus, and in compliance with its vision of a world in which men and women live as equitable partners and work together to secure better lives for their future, ABAAD started in April 2013 a “Middle- Way House” program, as part of a longer-term program, as a model of immediate response/provision of protection to refugee women at risk and those survivors of GBV and women in host communities.

 

Position Description :

The Psychosocial Social Worker (PSS) is responsible to conceptualize the weekly activities plan in close coordination with the Director & Prevention officer; conducting awareness sessions, delivers PSS activities, Art creative and empowerment activities for the survivors residing at the MWH. The PSS Social Worker will be in charge with the support of the MWH Director to schedule and manage the weekly procurement plan of the MWH in close coordination with the MWH Director.

 

 

  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Psychosocial Activities
  • Conduct age appropriate and psychosocial activities for women and adolescent girls in –house
  • Identify, assess the needs and ensure provision of psychosocial activities for the women & Girls survivors at the Safe house.
  • Develop group activities plans in close consultation with the Multidisciplinary team
  • Design & implement & constantly evaluate in-House psycho-social support activities;
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment for mid-way house beneficiaries
  • Assist in the logistical preparations of all events, training, activities, etc;
  • Ensure proper documentation of all the activities conducted in-house
  • Accompany the House beneficiaries, as required, outside the House in close coordination with GBV CW.
  • Interact closely & ethically on daily basis with House beneficiaries.
  • Implement community outreach activities about GBV, violence against women and girls and available protection services.

 

II. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and 3-month work plans in a timely manner and incorporate technical supervisor & line-manager’s feedback.
  • Participate in weekly internal meetings to ensure adherence to standards of appropriate case management, as well as community-based approach and psychosocial activities.
  • Fill out related MEAL Tools as required by ABAAD MEAL Department.

 

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Degree in social work
  • Knowledge of GBV prevention and response
  • Experience working directly with refugees and other groups
  • Experience working directly with women and girls
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to human rights, gender equality, non-discrimination
  • Flexible pro-active attitude
  • Respect for ABAAD Code of Conduct and its PSEA Policy
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop
  • Ability to work well as an individual and in a team
  • Ability to manage an unpredictable workload in a challenging environment
  • Ability to work across socio-cultural and religious contexts
  • Belief in ABAAD’s mission and vision
  • Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic, clear and concise reporting in English is strongly preferred. French is a plus
  • Experience in managing and training community volunteers
  • Must be computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
