Media & Communication Coordinator (Part-Timer)

Syrian Voice and Accountability Project Duration:  2 years JOB PROFILE JOB TITLE: Media & Communication Coordinator ABAAD PURPOSE: ABAAD aims at achieving gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD has a proven record in working in addressing GBV in emergency settings. The Syrian Voice and Accountability Project is a two-year programme implemented by ABAAD-Resource Centre for Gender Equality in Lebanon and ARDD-Legal Aid in Jordan in partnership with Oxfam. The project aims at empowering approximately 33,000 Syrian men and women to become agents in their communities and lives though enhancing the preparedness of Syrian refugees to constructively engage in humanitarian, development and political processes. JOB PURPOSE: Develop and implement VOICE Media Strategy and Plan (including internal and external communication). In addition, ensure effective flow of information about the project through media and other stakeholders. REPORTING LINES: Post holder reports to: Project Manager and ABAAD Executive Director DIMENSIONS: Delegated authority to supervise the three community mobilizers and delegated projects/activities. Required to make sound judgments regularly within agreed processes using a good understanding of the team and the facilities of the team. Communication is largely with internal staff, also with some external contacts and target audiences to support operational work. Analysis and communication of some complex information at a simple level is required to a wide audience to promote and influence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategy Develop, implement and evaluate VOICE communication and media strategy; Provide and support the communication and media work all through the project life; Implementation Report on the progress of the communication work plan including the coordination of the delivery of its outputs; Oversee internal and external communication and media work to reach out more effectively to target audiences in Lebanon and in the region; Develop communication messages relevant to VOICE work and streamlining the project messaging; Conceptualize and develop creative communication actions and tools for the project, including tailored tools the project target groups; Develop media communication, including drafting press briefings and press releases, their distribution to the target groups and monitor the preparation of press clippings; Contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure production and ensure publication dissemination; Promotion and dissemination of advocacy materials for launching initiatives and publications; In addition to print media, use multi-media and social media solutions in communication strategies; Networking & Outreach Strengthen the project media relations as a tool to engage the broader public in the project advocacy work; Represent ABAAD at meetings with partners, institutions and other external stakeholders as well as at conferences, seminars and other media or policy events; Review and monitor on progress of outreach opportunities and take appropriate follow up actions; Promote ABAAD and the project visibility through its programmes and initiatives to the public through regular, synthesized communication publications via social and local media. SKILLS AND COMPETENCE: University Degree (Masters preferable) in a relevant field; Minimum five-years practical work experience in a communications, public relations or media; Experience formulating and implementing communications strategies and plans; Practical experience with electronic communication systems (online websites and databases); Experience of working in/with non-government organizations; Experience building and maintaining websites; Experience organizing events such as press conferences, workshops and meetings; Strong inter-personal and team building skills including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues; Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and pay attention to details; Fluent written and spoken Arabic and English are essential; Good organizational and prioritization skills and the ability meet deadlines under pressure; Anticipates problems and regularly provides solutions.
