About the project
ABAAD is a non-profit, non-politically affiliated, non-religious civil association founded in 2011 with the aim of promoting sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region through equality, protection and empowerment of marginalized groups, especially women.
ABAAD has partnered with UN Women’s Regional Bureau of Arab States (RBAS) to conduct a mapping of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), as part of a regional program entitled “Women for Women and Men for Women.”, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation (SIDA). This three year regional program aims to respond to new challenges and opportunities in the region regarding gender equality and women’s empowerment. It seeks to understand the root causes of gender inequalities and to address them through an innovative bottom-up approach. The regional project will be implemented in Morocco, Lebanon, Palestine and Egypt. This consultancy assignment relates to a mapping of CSOs and CBOs in Lebanon only.
With the overall goal to enhance gender equality in the region, the program intends more specifically to contribute to the following:
Understand the root causes of gender inequality in order to develop evidence-based advocacy and awareness-raising tools; including on masculinities and working with men and boys;
Strengthen the capacities and networks of GEWE civil society organizations, with a particular focus on the sustainability of new and emerging movements;
Develop community-based solutions to promote gender equality based on innovative approaches and South-South exchanges.
Overall goal of this assignment
The overall goal of the consultancy is to provide a mapping of Civil Society Organizations and Community-Based Organizations who are new and emerging, focusing their work on innovative approaches to gender equality, engaging men and boys and working with young people. ABAAD is particularly interested in new and emerging organizations who are working on gender equality and who that are youth-led or youth-driven.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the ABAAD Program Manager, the consultant will be expected to work on the following:
a) Identifying NGOs and CSOs at the community (local) and national level, in particular those who are youth led or driven and emerging or newly established, working in the following areas:

- Eliminating violence against women
- Engaging youth as agents of change towards achieving gender equality
b) Conducting a mapping of the organizations, including collecting data about their organizational profiles;
c) Develop a matrix table of these organizations, containing all the profile data collected.

The main purpose is to strengthen organizations who provide community-based approaches to Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Lebanon. Following the mapping, ABAAD and UN Women will identify selected NGOs and CSOs to benefit from the aforementioned program interventions, in addition, these organizations will be eligible to apply for the small grants to provide seed funding for their initiatives.
