Terms of Reference: Research and Resources Consultant
(Masculinities and Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights focused)
About ABAAD
ABAAD is a non-profit, non-politically affiliated, non-confessional organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable peace, democracy and social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD believes that eliminating gender based barriers, discrimination and violence while building women and girls’ agency and critical consciousness can allow them to participate effectively in all life spheres, lead change on their own, realize their rights and freely determine their life outcomes.
Purpose & Function
The overall purpose and functions are:
The consultant will be responsible for supporting developing new resources on Masculinities and on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. The consultant will also be responsible for supporting research (evidence-based literature review, data collection, data analysis, and report write-up). S/he has the overall responsibility of ensuring that the different tasks are delivered on time.
Among the functions s/he is expected to achieve:
- Support the research and studies efforts on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and on Masculinities
- Support the development of novel material and resources on SRHR and on Masculinities
- Support in developing high quality evidence-based analysis, papers, policy briefings and recommendations related to ABAAD’s Masculinities and SRHR departments
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
The Research and Resources Consultant main responsibilities and duties are:
- Support in conducting social, ecological, and evidence-based literature reviews
- Support in qualitative and quantitative data collection
- Support in developing matrices for qualitative research
- Support in conducting quantitative data analysis
- Develop novel material for various resources on SRHR and on Masculinities
Education Requirements
- Master’s degree in Policy Development, Political Science, Social Marketing, International Relations, Media or a relevant field.
- Diplomas and relevant courses in policy development, advocacy, campaigning, branding, fundraising, public relations, project management, etc.
Skills Requirements
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in conducting research and developing resources
- Highly organized and able to meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent understanding and knowledge about women’s rights, gender and masculinities issues, engaging boys and men, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
- Fluency in English and Arabic
- Fluency in the use of the Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and sufficient experience in statistical software packages and databases (such as SPSS).

- Self-motivated, intelligent, articulate, detail-oriented and able to manage and complete multiple tasks and assignments
- Strong team and collaborative work skills
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills and techniques to conduct research and address related problems
- Ability to conduct scientifically valid research with attention to detail
DURATION: 3 months
LOCATION: Beirut based (with travel to Mount Lebanon, North (Akkar), Bekaa (North, West and Central), and South as needed)
