Position: Project Officer for the project “Accompaniment of the Families of the missing and Disappeared”

 

Location: Beirut, Lebanon

Full time position

ACT for the Disappeared is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization based in Beirut. Act aims to support the families of the missing and contribute to the clarification of the fate of forcibly disappeared and missing persons in Lebanon.

The project

 

Since 2017, ACT has worked in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide the families of the missing and disappeared with a support network and holistic wide-ranging assistance. The Accompaniment Project is a psychosocial project to support and empower the families of the missing in their effort to establish the fate of their loved ones. This Accompaniment Project includes home visits, information meetings and psycho-social group sessions as well as memorialisation activities such as the “Empty Chairs, Waiting Families” project where family members design and paint a chair in remembrance of the missing person.

This project aims to address the psychosocial needs of the families through:

  • Offering them a safe environment to express and lessen their isolation and create a network of support
  • Supporting them in developing positive coping mechanisms
  • Giving meaning to their experience and empowering them by creating commemorative artwork that voice their feelings and honour their love ones

 

 

TAsks and responsibilities

  • Planning, implementing and monitoring the project
  • Train and coach the accompaniers and senior accompaniers
  • Supervise the accompaniers and ensure a close follow up on the activities
  • Lead information sessions and psycho-social sessions
  • Coordinate with the ICRC, CFKD and Artichoke studio
  • Produce consolidated narrative and financial reports (with support of ACT’s financial officer)
  • Participate in strategic and coordination meetings with the ICRC and CFKD
  • Represent ACT in public events organized in the frame of the project
  • Ensure monitoring and evaluation based on the M&E plan
  • Ensure communication of the project in coordination with the ICRC and CFKD
  • Other duties as assigned

 

YOUR PROFILE

  • Advanced university degree in Psychology and/or completed vocational qualifications;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in social work or related field
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Strong intercultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a team
  • Ability to flexibly react to changes in your working environment;
  • Excellent written and spoken command of Arabic & English
  • Strong writing and analytical skills

 

Your assignment will start June 1, 2019 (minimum of one year with the option of an extension).
