Functions:
Internal Communication:
2.1. Internal Coordination and Communication:
- Facilitate interdepartmental communication and information sharing from project implementation teams to the Project Development Department with regards to the communication plans and communication deliverables’ timelines;
- Continue on-going monitoring, documentation and archiving of communication activities, conducted throughout the projects in line with the Communications and Visibility plans per each;
- Contribute to the quality narrative reporting of the project via providing a summary of the communication activities (social media, events) reflecting the progress and status of projects in a transparent, timely and professional manner, in liaison with the Project Development Department.
2.2. Filing:
- Update regularly the Resource Centre at the office with appropriate and relevant external and internal resources related to the communications.
External Communication:
1.1 Organizing communications materials
- Collecting, organising and selecting powerful images (and/or video footage) for regular use on ACTED Lebanon and ACTED HQ social media;
- Designing project’s communication strategies in coordination with the technical teams and donors’ guidelines;
- Designing mission communication strategy in coordination with PD department, senior management and ACTED HQ;
1.2 Printable and branded material
- Developing content, visuals & design of brochures, factsheets, project 1-pagers in line with ACTED’s and the donor’s visibility requirements
- Content generation and social media - maintenance of the ACTED social media channels – Instagram and Facebook via:
- Creading simple but effective photo quotes, infographics and social media posts;
- Locating social media focused content from stakeholders, government and UN agencies, and other partners’ postings;
- Identifying powerful stories from the field and from partners, and collecting relevant information (preparing and conducting interviews) and products to promote them;
- Monitoring ACTED's image on social media (incl. comments) and flagging any problematic aspect to the line manager.
1.4 Events/campaigns
- Supporting organization of workshops, campaigns and events as required, including drafting agendas, invitations, taking photographs and assist with same-day coordination
Required professional qualities:
- University degree in Communications, Social and/or Political Science, International Studies is an advantage;
- Previous experience working with an international/national NGO would be an asset;
- Strong writing skills and the ability to present information clearly and concisely;
- Interest and knowledge in humanitarian and development fields is an advantage;
- Experience with maintaining/support in updating professionally social media channels such ad Instagram, Facebook, Twitter will be considered as a strong asset
- Working knowledge of photo editing software, online video publishing and experience with flash is an advantage;
- Fluency in Arabic and English is required, fluency in French would be an asset.
Required personal qualities:
- The Communications Intern will be appraised on his/her demonstration of the qualities and competencies listed below as well as from carrying out of the duties in the previous section.
- Diplomacy is required for all interactions with both project beneficiaries, ACTED staff and other project stakeholders. Hence, good organizational and communication skills with international and national staff and rural communities are essential.
- Impartiality, objectivity and confidentiality are imperative; without prior authorization of Project Development Officer, reports and project development documents should not be shared within or outside ACTED without the authorization of the Project Development Officer and kept within the Project Development Unit.
- Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as well as the ability to plan, take initiative and organize work independently
- Understanding the nature of work carried out by programmes is necessary for ensuring the relevance and usability of the reports produced. Therefore, a proactive and self-motivated attitude towards gaining a good understanding of ACTED programs is essential. In addition some prior knowledge of project specifics practices is desirable.
- Willingness to learn and capacity to innovate; the Reporting and Communications Intern must be inventive and eager to improve his/her own skills.
- Creativity and thinking outside of the box – interest in visual arts such as photography and filmmaking would be asset.
- Ability to travel to the field, which may include overnight stays, in order to collect information for reports, project proposals and success stories.
