Decorative Construction Trainer - Tripoli

About ACTED:

ACTED in an international NGO that has been registered in Leba­non since 2006. It has an established country office in Beirut as well as a field office in Akkar. More recently, it has been carrying out activities in the South and in Tripoli.

 

ACTED works closely with local authorities and civil society stakeholders at the com­munity level to implement priori­ty humanitarian interventions such as emergency multi-purpose cash assis­tance, WASH projects (including disease monitoring and infrastructural and be­havioral response), and Shelter interven­tions incorporating multiple modalities. ACTED is also implementing long-term development projects to rehabilitate infrastructure, improv­e agricultural production, increase livelihood opportunities and support state and non-state ac­tors to improve service deliv­ery and social stability through col­lective development planning.

 

Project: “Operationalizing Human Security in Tripoli for Women and Girls”

ACTED is implementing a project in Tripoli designed to build the resilience of conflict-affected, displaced and hosting vulnerable women and girls in Tripoli, Lebanon. The targeted beneficiaries will receive a package of trainings and awareness sessions that will empower them, and provide them with basic skills to be in a better position to seek, at the end of the project, improved livelihood opportunities.

 

Assignment

To this effect, ACTED is seeking a trainer to provide four 30-hours decorative construction trainings to four groups of between 12 and 13 women and girls (16 to 50 years old).

The trainer will provide a total of 120 hours of training over the course of two months, between November 18th 2019 and January 24th 2020, to four groups of women and girls. The training will take place in a center located in Al Kobbeh, four days a week, between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 pm.

Decorative construction is the final architectural or interior design elements on a residential or commercial construction project. This training will focus on decorative painting (interior and exterior) and wallpapering. This beginners’ course is intended to give trainees a broad understanding of what a career in decorative construction involves and to build their skills to a level that will allow them to find employment as a decorative construction assistant or a freelancer.

 The course will be organized in a series of steps, covering the following topics:

1-A career in Decorative Construction – what it involves, what skills are required, what to charge.

2-Capacity building – hands-on training and instruction covering specific skills required of a decorative construction assistant. A practical test will be conducted at the end of the course to examine how successful the students perform and the challenges they face.

3-The training will be based on curriculum that has already been developed. The course outline is as follows:

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

-Use/adapt ACTED’s decorative construction curriculum

-Provide material needed for the training for each group (similar to annexed list of material)

-Develop an outline consisting of a lesson plan and timeline for each session

-Conduct 30 hours of theoretical and practical training in Tripoli based on the developed curriculum for each group

-Provide 4 x 3hr training sessions per week (12hrs of training a week) to four groups of 12 to 13 beneficiaries based on a pre-defined schedule drafted by the Project Manager, in consultation with the trainers

-Develop, review and evaluate tests/assignments completed by beneficiaries

-Provide a weekly report to the PM on the progress of the training using ACTED template

- Register daily attendance of trainees of the courses taught using ACTED template

 

Assist ACTED team in finding public and private sector companies (construction companies, schools, ministries, etc.), sensitive to recruiting women, for internships opportunities

 

Required competencies:

The instructor is expected to have the following skills:

-Design/architecture experience is preferred

-At least 2 years’ experience of working on construction and/or interior design projects

-Practical skill set to deliver ‘hands-on’ training, or capacity to source the services of specialists to assist in trainings and demonstrations of specific activities 

-Previous training or teaching experience preferred

-Ability and willingness to develop the existing curriculum by providing additional tips and hints for trainees wanting to work in decorative construction

-Patience and positive attitude is highly requested

-Excellent classroom management skills

-Excellent Arabic skills, both written and oral

-Strong communication skills

-Good presentation skills

-Good reporting skills
